Another driver loft question...

So, I have been playing a 10.5* driver with a Diamana BB shaft now for the last season and a half. I have hit it long very often but sometimes I wonder if my flight is to high. I had a Titleist 905R that launched the ball WAY high, same with a Cally FT-5- WAY high. The R5 TP I had launched it quite nice on a good flight. I'm wondering if maybe I need to go to a 9.5* head.

Does a shallow vs. Deep faced driver make a difference?

I wonder because i get such a different flight from my 3w, a TEE CB1 with Grafalloy Comp NT. That flight takes off low, rises slowly and then comes down with a little fade. It's beautiful. I wonder if I would get the same affect with a driver with the same shaft, a Comp NT 65g maybe...

Re: Another driver loft question...

Let me know when you find something that works, lol. I have the same damn thing, 13* CB1 with CompNT 85S. Flies out low with baby cut and just bores, running out to as long as most of my drives.

Re: Another driver loft question...

Have either of you considered changing balls to see if that makes a difference?

Try something like a ProV1x or an Tour Ix. My guess is that you have too much spin off the driver.

Re: Another driver loft question...

I use a Prov1X now. Flies further off my 3W it seems. Driver is just user error. I could knock the $hit out of the QuadTP and SuperquadTP, just not consistantly enough. How much futher is your driver than the 13* TEE? I know it's not just me. Like I said, I played a few times with a kid who is one of the states top am's, 115mph. SS (I asked) and twofast is the same SS. I'm right on their heels with the TEE as well. I think it's a pretty simple matter of club slightly delofted at impact and a higher spin rate. So it's like if I could hit an 8.5* driver trajectory without the distance robbing 1500rpms of spin. I'll bet the TEE is coming out with like 9* launch and 3-3500 spin on the ones I belt.

So my answer? There is no driver, shaft or loft that will be the same. The 3W is the 3W. Whatever ballflight you hit very well with it, try to get a driver that will compliment it I guess. I would be interested to see what your launch #'s look like BJ. See if they are similar to mine. I'm an oddball. I get very good AoA numbers and a higher launch angle but my spin is ridiculously low. So if I go to a higher loft driver, I hit it 9miles in the air. If I drop loft to get a lower launch angle, I lose distance do to the ridiculously low spin rate.

Yeah, I have come to the conclusion that for me my driver is very streaky. One day its great, bombing away and then the next its "FORE right!" I think I am going to try to put together a Speed Pro D and Diamana BB and call it a season. I love that shaft and I want to try that head so who knows...

Re: Another driver loft question...

I edited my post there. I thought about it and it makes more sense I've got low launch with the 13* but higher spin. I hit down on the 3W but a driver I hit on the upswing. I really should get fit because my #'s are really screwed up. I'm the same way with the driver. Some days I can play a 2-3 cut that carries a mile and others I block and pull it all day long. One thing that playing no driver has shown me, it's not the drivers, it's my swing. I can still do the same thing with the 3W but it's not quite as drastic.

Re: Another driver loft question...

I have ridiculously high spin numbers with anything, so low loft and low spin help me alot.

I have a wickedly tip stiff shaft in my FW to cut spin entirely. I can carry it about 280 and do so quite regularily from the tee on a par 4 we have on the course. My driver is long than that, but not by much.

Mine is setup tip stiff as well. The CompNt was already tipped for a 3W and I cut another inch off it. They say "blue tip technology" but not sure that means the same tip stiffness as the Graf Blue. One thing is for sure, with any club, stiffer tip helps me. My iron accuracy went up when I switched to S300's and the 5W is money with a heavily tipped Speeder 761.

Re: Another driver loft question...

Why don't you put a 1" tipped CompNT in your driver?

I may do that eventually. I've got the same Speeder 761 as my 5W here in a driver length. I'm going to try that in something first. I had the stock VS proto 80-S in that same 5W and the shaft difference is night and day. That 5W hits mid-high, flat bombs now when it used to be just high and loose. Accuracy is amazing. You can ask twofast, he gave me the club and we were both amazed the 1st few times I took it out. So I'm really looking forward to getting that into something. Probably going to shim it into an R7425 since that head is probably the "best ever" accuracy/distance head I've had.
