Thread: I'm going square

  1. I'm going square

Played round #5 of the year yesterday in the mud - hit some decent drives, but I really noticed that I hit the ball high. I mean DAMN high. As luck would have it there was a demo day at this course we were playing at and Titty/Cobra and Nike were there. I tried the 909 and wasn't really impressed. It seemed too much like my 905R and I wanted to try something different. I tried the Dymo with the STR8 technology 1 degree and 2 degrees open and started hitting a fade, but still moon balls. Then he gives me a Dymo2 square thing 8.5 degrees with a ProLaunch RED and I was killing it.

I am getting one as soon as I can find one... I'm overdue

Hmmm - my research indicates that I can get an FT-I for about the same price as the Nike, but with i-mix technology

A prolaunch red is only like 40-50 on Ebay, so just get a head you are happy with.

PL Red is a Walmart shaft. Get a Rombax Z series. I liked the Dymo head but didn't like the stock Proforce Axiv they had in the thing. Felt like a soft tipped low bend shaft to me.

Exactly - I hit the stock shaft into orbit, he built me one with a PL Red which was much better

    Re: I'm going square

Please don't assume that the PL Red will be a fairway finder in the FT-i. Spin rates and launch angle can change severely between heads and swings.

However, if you get the FT-i mated to a shaft that works with your swing, you're in great shape and have a bomber in your hands.

    It's done.

Ordered FT-i Tour LCG Neutral from callypreowned.

I passed on the cheaper XCon and went for the Fuji 686. I really like Fuji's

Feck - I think you're right. Everything I am reading about this head and shaft screams I am going to hit this thing too high. I should have forgone the LCG and just gotten the tour with the Pershing or looked for a PL Red or 757 or something.

If you can go back and find that guy at Nike, buy that exact driver. In my experience with major manufacturers quality control you never get anything close, it's just pot luck. You could easily buy the same stamp head and shaft, but get a head with + or - 2 degrees of loft or even face angle. Then the shaft issue.....the variables are insane.

    Isn't that the truth.

I demo'd a 3-wood once that was as close to the magic 3-wood as I'll ever get. I bought a new club with the exact same specs, and couldn't hit it worth a damn. I should have begged, borrowed, or stolen that demo club. I'm convinced the retail shops get demo clubs that are custom tuned (particularly in re: spining/floing/etc.) and they use those clubs to sucker dummies like me into buying OTR crap.
