Low trajectory irons?

I am looking to get some new irons for christmas. I am leaning towards buying blades, perhaps the mizuno mp 37's, maybe the titleist 670's. My primary concern is getting a club with a low ball flight. I hit the ball very high even with my long irons, consequently I have a lot of difficulty controlling the ball in the wind. I am currently playing mizuno pro's, which have been great to me. My only complaint with the pro's is that the sweet spot seems too sweet, when I catch the ball perfectly it flies way too far. I typically hit my 7 iron just short of 170 yds. Every once in a while it will carry 185 or so.

In your opinion what is the best iron for a low ball flight? should I be more concerned with the clubs I am buying, or the shaft? I don't necessarily have to buy blades, but is seems to me they are my best bet for controlling trajectory.

I don't think that 'too sweet' as a concept exists.That must be a swing problem,possibly turning the ball over slightly,hence why one occasionally flies 185,which is a huge hit.I would suggest that 170 is your normal distance,and the odd one just turns over a bit.

If you are in the market for the 670s,you have to be a consistent ball striker,or you won't get on with those clubs.Its impossible to get a club that flies the ball lower,thats for sure. (Big Ernie uses them).Its just personal preference over the MP-37s.personally,I prefer the Mizunos,but prefer the 690s to the MP-33s,its just a personal thing.

What shafts are you using? What ball do you play? Where in the stance do you play your irons from? How tall are you and have you had your current set custon fit?

My Pro's have Dynamic Gold Sensicore S300 shafts. I am 6'1" and my shafts have been custom fit at stnd. length. I play the ball between the center of my stance and my left heel with my SW in the center and progressively closer to my left heel as I go through my set, my 3 iron is a few inches away from my left heel.
In general I hit the ball fairly consistently, I am a 6 handicap. You could be right about me turning the club over, but when I crush the ball like that it isn't necessarily going left, it seems to happen more with my 7 and 8 irons than the others.

If i could recommend a set, it would be the Mp-33's. They have a lower ball flight than some of the other Mizuno's I've hit. Easy to shape and they have that outstanding Mizuno feel.

If you're truly playing to a 6, I think you'd appreciate what the 33's can bring to the table. They're truly one of the better sets out there.

Based on what I have told you guys, what shaft would you recommend for me to keep the ball lower? I am most concerned with keeping 2 - 5 irons low, the other I enjoy hitting them high and being able to stop the ball on a dime.

I have the same problem. Hitting the ball high is what I want with my 7-PW and a lower ball with my 3-5 irons.

I'm going to put a set of Rifle Flighted 5.5's (firm, plays about the same as a S300) in my Mp-30's. The Flighted series supposedly has a setup where 1-5 iron shafts have a low trajectory kickpoint, the middle irons 6-8 have a medium kick for normal shotmaking, and the scoring irons have a kickpoint allowing for high, yet distance enhancing shots.

Sounds too good to be true, but any reading I've found (which has been hard to find on the Flighted series) has been positive and suggestive that these shafts are the real deal.

Have you had the lofts checked? Its no unknown for players to use some irons that are way out only to discover this when they buy some new clubs.Have them checked out.

What clubs are they btw? If you hit the 670s or MP-37s high then you need to be on tour. Just get soem irons with minimal offset,as the 670s and MP-37s are.The 2 irons are like knives.
