Callaway fusion driver

I went to the golf shop yesterday to look for a 5w or 7w but i wont get into that. As i was looking around i went to the Titliest clubs and a guy comes up and is looking at the 905t driver. I tell him is a great driver and he should hit it. He then tells me that he has just got done hitting the fusion and bertha. As we are walking to the front of the shop, me to leave and him to get balls, the pro comes up to him and says we got a problem. The crown was seperated from the face and it looked like it had been hit off the toe. I left at this point so i dont know if the guy had to pay for it or what. My question is has anyone here heard about this happening to the fusion or did this guy buy a club he broke.

I guess that's not all that surprising. I mean, it's probably just sandwiched together with some adhesive. Perhaps with enough force, you could jar that bad boy loose.

I've heard of guys breaking shafts during trial runs, but never a head coming apart like that. I doubt he'd have to pay for it. They'd just send it back to Callaway as a warranty issue.

It happens. The weld it not made to hold for a shot like that.
The steelheads were terrible, especially the fairway woods.
When it happens the mfg will replace it so unless it was someone getting ripped off they do not have to pay.
If it is one of our used clubs we expect $10 to cover shipping to get it replaced.

I played golf last week with a guy that used to make all of the cast heads for Cally, Spalding etc in the early 90's. This guy worked closely with Scotty when he was still making putters for Mizuno. He said he was good friends with Scotty and would stay with him and Kathy when he went to CA. I don't know if he was full of BS or what, but the guy had a tour stamped (red dot) Newport 1.5 SS with insert that had a custom stamp from Scotty himself also on the toe. Most guys I know would have that thing behind bullet proof glass. He said he has a closet full of scotty putters. You should have seen the gear this guy had 905, Halo, 735 CM Tittys, all brand new.

Anyways, back to the point. He says that when he was pouring Cally clubs, they were so cheaply made compared to the others that breakage was not uncommon (we're talking irons here - judging from the age I'm guessing original BB or maybe X12) He said it was cheaper for callaway to send out new ones then fix anything broken since the irons were so cheap to begin with.

Rock - this must be like a dagger thru your heart wha?

Nah, not surprising.

Early Callaway stuff was garbage. Have you ever hit an original BB iron? It's total crap.

But, I bet if you saw what went into alot of stuff out there, you'd see that many companies were just the same back then.
