Thread: Project X experiment

  1. Project X experiment

I got hold of a set of X Tours with 6.0 PXs. I also got a lend of a 6 iron X Tour with a 5.0 and of course my own Muira 6 iron with a 5.5 Rifle. On Friday I hit the lab with three different 6 irons.

After warming up I hit 6 of each. I took out the best and worst of each to leave an average 4. So that's 12 balls in total and guess what? About 5 yards between them all with no real winner.

I found the flight of the Project X's a bit higher, but that could have been the XTour head. Not sure I really felt any real difference betwen the 5.0 and 6.0.

Anyone else have any feedback on Project X?
Doctors say that you should eat 5 pieces of fruit or veg a day to remain healthy. Last week I ate 5 mouldy plums and that night I shat the bed. What's healthy about that?:shocked::shocked:

  2. Re: Project X experiment

I've hit rifles from 4.5-6.0 without noticing a very prominent pattern. I would think PX would fly lower than Rifle, and I would think the 6.0 would fly lower than the 5.0. But who knows?

PX have a slightly lower kickpoint with a stiffer tip section. Higher flight and lower spin.

Personally I like the plain old Rifle shafts better than the Project X.

I get a higher flight. I had flighted 6.0 Rifles.. Got 5.5 non flighted PX.. I like the flight much more, less spin, and although higher, it appears flatter as well.

Feeling wise, I couldn't tell much difference in the S300 v. PX

    Re: Project X experiment

Over this summer I switched out a set of X100's for my buddy and put a set of PX Flighted 6.5's in. I swung each club and have more experience with X100's and S300's than PX's. I have played quite a bit with a set of plain Rifle 5.5's and a little with Flighted 5.5's.

X100- way to stiff for me, I never could feel where the clubhead was and felt like I had to swing out of my shoes to hit them.

S300- good shaft, much more suited for my swing and much more controllable for me than X100's

Rifle 5.5's- both the flighted and original felt very good to me, they both brought my flight to be more mid high and gave me a nice penetrating flight. I like them both alot with a slight nod to the FCM Rifles.

PX 6.5's- Again to stiff for me but much better feeling to me than X100's, I didn't feel like I really had to go after them but could still tell that my SS wasn't quite where it needed to be to handle these.

Overall, I couldn't see a huge difference from Rifles to PX-at least not that an average hacker could tell but they did have more feel and felt livlier in my hands than S300 or X100's. For my money, i would stick with a set of Rifle FCM 5.5 or 6.0's and save about $100.
Blew up the bag, not sure what's going in next...
    Any suggestions?

    Re: Project X experiment

I had the FCM 6.0 flighted rifles stock in my set, and I pulled them after I felt like I wasn't getting much out of them. I gave them to my brother who has a much higher SS and could use them in his irons.

I will say, S300 feel some what more gentle than the PX, but I really like the flight the PX gives.. Apparently I've been told I should take a look at the 5.5 KBS Tours. They give the feel of the S300, and the flight and spin of the PX. Good price on 'em too.

For what it's worth, I couldn't tell a difference within reason between the 6.0 flighted, 5.5 PX and S300. The 5.5's actually feel somewhat softer than the S300's to me, but might be because I think the SW on my MB's is a big higher than my other set.

Also.. IG... Can you get ahold of some KBS shafts?? Those might be worth looking into. I think they are cheaper than PX as well.

Yeah, I think that 5.5's are slightly softer than S300's and 6.0's are slightly stiffer, not by much but enough.

I have hit Rifle Flighted and KBS Tours. I prefer the feel of the KBS. Haven't tried a PX but that was going to be my next set of shafts until I hit the KBS Tours.

The second I find a set of KBS 5.5's in the smoke color, I'm buying them if they are cheap enough.

Otherwise, I believe Santa is bringin' me a set of KBS Tours for Christmas, perhaps attached to some iron heads.

Was it the Flighted Project x shafts in the Callys? I have tried the flighted and non flighted, I found the flighted to be a real nice shaft on a calm day but in the wind all I could hit was a little trap draw or the ball baloons up big time. I currently have the 5.5's in my Callaway Prototypes they are far better in the wind but like mentioned above not the best feeling shafts, KBS Tour's could be a winter project for me.

I hate Px so much I can now barely even waggle one in my hands. Compared to DGs they are like swinging bricks with a piece of string.
