    Scratch Wedges

Anybody used these? How do they play, do they generate alot of spin? I have just done a deal for a 53 & 58 with KBS shafts for an Imix Matrix shaft. Dam postal strike this week means I may not have them by the weekend :(

    Re: Scratch Wedges

I've only hit one a couple of times but my friend, the owner, swears for his Scratch wedges and would die for them. They are supposed to have this wonderful feeling you can't compare with, and, when new, they are completely customizable to any specs you want to.

You've got great shafts with them so I think you won't be disappointed at all...

And the are the PGA Nationwide Tour wedge!!!!

The KBS were a big reason for doing the deal. I want to try them as I'm thinking of a winter project installing them into my Cally Proto's

I have Naks. I've debated grabbing a set of the new 8260 Cast, as they play damn near the same as the forged at half the price. Milled faces and grooves, all hand ground and available in all sorts of heel and relief grinds. Stamping is free too, I believe.

$99 is MSRP, but street price is better if you shop around. KBR Tour shafts, standard.

LH are not available until March next year. :(

Which heads did you get? Scratch has some new heads, the 8620 series that are cast and not forged. I just bought and played one round with a 53 and 60(bent to 58). The heads are lighter than the Cleveland’s I normally play, the heads are a different shape as well...flatter on the bottom of the face than both Cleveland or Titleist. They spin like a mofo though, a full on 58 from 85 yards on a prov 1 will rip back 10 feet on my guesstimation. Not sure how much I like them yet. The lighter weight has me keeping the CG12's in the bag until I can get some practice time in.

    Re: Scratch Wedges

I have one of the older forged models.. Have a 58* that I bent to 60*.

Fantastic wedge.. Really, really nice wedge infact. Spins alot, and even with short chips with it. My 60* is stop on a dime kind of stuff. Has the grind that makes it easier to open the club up, and retain a fair amount of bounce.

The new 8620 ones look very, very tempting. They are also doing a deal where you can trade in your old beat up wedges, that they donate to charity like 1st Tee, and give you like $20-25 towards a new wedge.

They have the milled faces, KBS standard shafts, and you can get whatever finish, grind, and stamping if you desire.

I have really nice wedges and I'm comfortable with them, but when they wear out, I'm planning on taking the 1 hour ride north, and going to Scratch's HQ, and trying them all out and getting them made there. For $200-ish, you really can't beat it.

For those looking for wedges.. I just picked up a 54* and 58* Vokey SM.. brand new with the plastic still on 'em if someone wants them for both for $160 shipped. I won't play them, and picked them up the other day because I needed to buy something at the golf store for whatever reason.

I hear good, no experience though, those are probably what Fats playing....mine are the new 8620's. No better than a Vokey except for the customization you can have done for no extra cost, which if you need them bent (like I did) and my initials added (cause it was free) makes them worth the $99 each.

    Re: Scratch Wedges

    Eddie,

You honestly compare them to a Vokey? Just curious. I just bought two SM vokeys, and my god do they look chunky to me, and I'm not super fond of the grind.

I have the Forged 1018 model. Satin in color, it was their first big dive model into retail. They ran around $150 a pop, I got them for around 60% of that with some closeouts at a golf store. It's a good soft wedge, very heavy head feeling. For not having the "fancy" Z groove, spin milled, zip groove, laser-blah blah grooves.. It's a damn fine spinning wedge.

I think what sets Scratch apart from the others, isn't the material they use, or the casting that is so soft.. but the grinding. They have a grind for simply ANYTHING you can imagine.

I'm putting a few pennies away for a 53* and 57* in their darker color. Two different grinds for what I use my wedges for.. For around $80 a pop after a trade in, you can not beat it, dollar for dollar I think. Even at $99, like EddieC said.. Thats the median price for most any wedge on the market, and even cheaper than some!

Fat, well not exactly a Vokey, a little slimmer, but material wise yes. You're right though, you can't beat the options. And they are sweet looking with all models of the 8620 series having that "spin milled" face. I don't think that mine have the KBS shaft though...no stickers on them anyway. Customer service is second to none...I'd buy from them just for that reason....I'm a "let your money be your vote kind of shopper" and I'd buy from Scratch again in a heart beat. I'm sure your and Manchesters wedges are super nice, I wonder if the forged head is heavier? Like I mentioned above the 8620's feel lighter than CG12's.

    Re: Scratch Wedges

My scratch is heavier than my TM Z wedges, and it's heavier than these new Vokeys I have as well.

I do like the looks of the cast 8620's though, good to hear they are just as nice as what I have here in the forged version. Scratch does make some very nice stuff.

Paul - I play two custom's - they rock. Wouldn't say the spin is anything outrageous, but certainly comparable to most… it's the grinds that really win it for me. Just make sure that the grinds fit your style.
