Thread: Difference between R9 and R9 TP 3 wood???

  1. Difference between R9 and R9 TP 3 wood???

Hi all. I am new here and hoping someone can answer a question for me. Have been looking at the R9 fairway woods and am wondering what the difference is between the basic R9 and the R9 TP? Is it just the shaft or is the head actually different? Thanks for your help. Great forum by the way...T

Just the shaft. They come with higher-end shafts from other shaft OEM's, like Matrix, Mitsubishi, and Aldila.

It's worth the money because you know the given specs of the shafts they offer, and if those fit your swing profile. If you plan to put another shaft in there anyways, get the regular R9, and save the money.

    100$ and the shaft
if you dont like nay of the higher end shafts, get the non tp, and either buy a new adapter or pull the shaft from the adapter with it and create your own

    negative
    taylormade makes a strong 3 and a normal 3

    the T3 wood is 13*, 168cc while the 3 wood is 15* 161cc
both are available in TP and non-tp versions
for lefties, we are stuck with a 3 and 5 for the r9s

Yeah, they make two different lofts for the 3-wood. I alway opt for the stronger loft.

So are the TP versions of TM's 3 woods not open faced like their drivers?

contrary to popular believe, personally i think the TP's are square to closed, and the non tps are closed
my old r9 at open looked square in comparison to my cobra
i think it depends if you have a TP or non TP sleeve
they both should be the same at neutral. correct me if i am wrong but are the TP sleeves more adjustable by 1 or 2* than the non tp's? or is that a tour sleeve?
either way, if you think its closed, clock it 2* open and it will be square, well squarer

That was also part of the confusion for me on this issue as the R9 of course has the adjustable shaft/head. And that option is available in both models as well. Seems strange that they would call it a TP, solely based on a shaft difference. Oh....and the great TM marketing machine rolls on....T
