Iron Shaft Swapping

okay, here's the deal. my next equipment move is an iron change. or at least iron clubhead change so i'm hoping.

the head of choice is the snake eyes 600c.

i really like the shafts in my TM supersteels, which are the TM S-90 shafts by royal precision. would it be adviseable/possible to pull the shafts from the supersteels and put them in the snake eyes? or would it be better to just start all over and just find something similar.

thanks

oh and who prefers the DGS3000s or say the Rifle 6.0s or 5.5s and why.

Most OEM shafts are taper tip, most components take parallel. This may be the first hurdle.
Even if they do fit, the head weights and shafting depths would have to be very similar in order for the shafts to play the same as they did in your TM's. It may just be easier to try something new. Who knows, you may like it.
I play the stock shafts in my pings so I can't comment on the DG vs Rifles.

i forgot, i could also pull the DGS3000s out of my TA1's, for once i'm not thinking about those b/c they're in the very back corner of my closet so i won't be tempted to put them back in my bag. great shafts too. good condition would that make any difference??? meaning would they be a better fit?

thanks again.

Gun,

You can pull either and shim them to fit. However, as Greg pointed out, they probably won't feel the same.

That being said, pulling the 300's would be a decent choice. Get some brass shims and compare the headweights of your TA1's to the new Snakes and add weight to get them to about the same swingweight. You can always fine tune with some lead tape or even pull the shafts and add some lead plug weights to get a better feel/swingweight for your sticks.

Maybe just try the 7 iron. It's quick and easy.

correct me if i'm wrong....

are you saying that the Shafts are tuned specifically for the TA1's and wouldn't perform as well in other heads? i wouldn't think that'd be the case, i'm thinking what you're saying is that the differences in heads will make the shafts play differently...

the cleveland site sucks terribly, OB, you wouldn't happen to know the weight of a TA1 7 iron head would you? or better yet have the statistics for the whole TA1 set, thanks

Nope, I'm not saying that. But, if your TA1's have weights in the heads to increase swingweight, you're going to try and match the Snake Eyes to that weight. So if the SE are heavier, then the shaft is going to make them play/feel heavier. Or, in other words, a lighter shaft might be an answer to make the feel/swingweight similar.

But hopefully they're close enough that you can use some old tricks like backweighting near the grip, ect.

well i'm not really trying to get the same feel as the TA1's, seeing as how they were constantly in and out of my bag due to performance issues. i could definitely be playing them now, but i just don't work the ball enough for them to pay off since that was basically the only pro if i used them. they were maybe a tad too heavy for my liking too.

i'm basically just starting all over as far as irons go. i'm hoping to keep them halfway similar to my supersteels, but with just a tad bit more game to them and a more appealing look at address.

i guess this is just gonna be a huge trial and error project this summer, but good news, i cut a deal with my parents that if i make it to state, they pay half of the costs for me making a new set of irons. so i'm thinking that i go and get the shafts that i really want instead of cost cutting by swapping shafts. so i'll find out which rifle shaft fits me best, and go for those. i'm gonna guess the 6.0s right now but we'll see
