Eracer was kind enough to lend me his Tour Edge Exotics 10.5* driver shafted with a Grafalloy Nano Technology shaft in stiff flex. I had a go with her tonight at the range and compared it side-by-side with my beloved Cleveland Launcher 460 Ti with a Graf Blue in stiff.
Here are my findings.
Appearance:
The club has a nice glossy black head which I beleive all drivers should be. Either gloss black or grey, but I digress. The 10.5* that was provided is neither open nor closed at address, just straight neutral. And it is apparent at address. It almost looks closed in comparison to my 2* open 8.5 Launcher, but this didn't phase me much. It's a great looking driver that just instill confidence at address. A nice distance from face to the back of the clubhead, but this is made up with a deep face and a level sitting platform of a sole. Matched with the beautiful blue of the Nano, it just smacked of high end. Overall, just great. (9.5/10, although I don't know what a 10 would be.)
Swingweight/Feel:
To me, this thing is perfect. It's like the 62g Nano shaft is just built for this clubhead. A tad lighted than the Launcher, I found it well balanced through the swing and at address. I find sometimes that heavier drivers are tough to keep level during my pre shot waggle, which throws me off a tad. Not with this thing. I feels like an extension of my own limb. (9.5/10)
Shaft Performance:
Can it get any better? This coming from a guy that flaunted his GBBII only to replace it with "The Best Club of All Time", his Cleveland Launcher. I'm a huge fan of the Graf Blue in both those aforementioned heads, but this Nano is something else. No matter how you swing it, the damn thing goes straight. I had to intentionally leave my hands ahead to get the bloody thing to slice. Not fade, slice. You can control the clubhead nicely, from sweet draws to a nice power fade. Excellent, excellent feedback as well. (10/10, easy.)
Club Performance - the nitty gritty:
This thing is Loooong. I'm hitting my Launcher pretty well this summer so far. I've had a few drives up near 330 in my limited play so far. But this thing is unbelievable. I've demo'd alot of drivers in my time (save, some of the Taylor Made lineup, and Titleist, because I don't like either company, but basically everything I can inbetween) and I have never, NEVER been more impressed by one single peice of equipment. This is single handedly the best golf club I have ever hit. EVER.
I was easily carrying 290 with this. The 10.5* loft was giving me a decent trajectory and launch and wasn't ballooning like I thought it might. But I think 95% of that is addressed by the Nano shaft. This thing flat out performs. You can crank on this thing and it just dusts itself off and waits for more. Just a jackhammer. Eracer did a great job researching (or fluking out!) on his shaft choice here. I would be hard pressed to say whether I could find a better combination of shaft and head without having a Tour Van come to my local range and spend 2 days figuring out what would work with my swing.
The back of the range is about 305 where we were tonight. I was one hoping them all night. I figured that I was just having a "scratch range session", so I handed it off to a friend who hits a ball about as long as mine with a VFT Pro Series Ti driver. He bombed his first drive OVER the fence. This thing is STUPID long.
My Opinion:
Try this driver. Get it shafted up with an NV, a Blue, a Nano, a Fuji, whatever you can and go and hit this thing. The ball flies off the face so straight that you can pick your tee up, order a beer and have it half drank before the ball comes back to earth.
I'm going to have to break down and say it, but this thing EXCEEDS the Launcher's abilities and instills more confidence than my GBBII ever had.
And that was one range session.
This summer becomes my search for a Tour Edge Exotics Driver and a Nano shaft. I need to find some sap that had no luck with the shitty stock shaft and is dumping the thing. Doc?
I'm still reeling about this thing.
If anyone has questions, fire at will. Best 44 bucks of duty and taxes I ever spent!![]()
