Need shoes but have a potentially big issue

I've begun playing again and I need to get a pair of golf shoes. However, I have an odd issue that I am fearing that I will not be able to overcome. In December, I had ankle surgery to repair "shredded" peroneal tendons. It seems successful as the pain is less than it was before but not completely gone. Doc says up to a year for that. I'm fine with it.

The issue is this. When I wear normal cut shoes, my ankle swells up enormously. That is due to the shoe rubbing on the scar and around where the peroneal nerve was moved to fix the tendons. Consequently, my shoes of choice are mid-cut athletic or hiking boots. Now I need a pair of golf shoes and have yet to find anything that conforms to that requirement. Does anyone know of such a thing? I have looked at the FJ site and see nothing, I have used my friend Google to no avail. Basically, the edge of the shoe would have to be above my ankle bone or it would be extremely uncomfortable through a round. The other difficult part of all this is my shoe size is a 14. That makes it difficult to go to a store to try them.

Am I out of luck? Any info is greatly appreciated. I came upon this forum looking for an active forum to discuss golf equipment. I hope I've come to the right place.

T,

Our shops sells mid height shoes. I, for the life of me, have no idea who makes them tho.

I'll give the shop a call and find out for you.

The shop doesn't sell them anymore and the guy can't remember the manufacturer. But they are out there.

There's these:

Golf Shit Kickers

I'll look into it some more, because I have seen them.

OMG.....maybe in cold climate with jeans. Oh wait, most courses don't allow those. I'd almost feel I'd have to find a cowboy hat too. LOL!

Let me know if you find out who it is. I know I've seen them too but i cannot remember for the life of me where. GolfSmith does not have anything. IIRC, the PGA Superstore does not either.

Dr. Sholes moleskin

essentially pads of felt with a sticky side that can be cut to fit your area of discomfort and will aleviate the rubbing issue.

My wife swears by these whenever she weras the "cruel shoes"

Welcome aboard!!!

Bite makes a fantastic golf shoe. They are actually my preferred walking shoe for golf. FJ's are my prefered shoe for riding in a cart. Bite does in fact make a golf hiking style shoe. You can find regular Bite shoes in stores, although you may have to have them order the Hiking style.

It may be a good option.

I wear 13's and they do make these in 14's and 15's. I had to order my last pair from a pro shop, which was a low cut hiking style.

Here is the link to the hiking boot style shoe.

... and the rest of their line, which may have something else.

You should definitely try SoftJoy from FJ as they are the most comfy golf shoes on the planet, and you don't need to break them in.
But you'll have a hard time looking for golf boots.

Thanks for the welcome everyone. I have found the golf forum I was looking for.

FKA, those Bite shoes look like exactly what is most comfy for me. Now the challenge of finding them in the store. I will also look at the FJ's. While GS has a good selection, I think the PGA store might have more. I think I'll actually be on that side of town this weekend.

I'll have a look at that moleskin. That might let me wear normal shoes to work again. It's hard to figure out what to wear when hiking boots or basketball shoes are the most comfy. At least my company understands the issue.

I'm sure I will be back with some other questions in addition to this. I've already enjoyed reading the posts in here.
