Shaft Problems

I was playing with my mate, last week, and after playing a few shots with my King Cobra Baffler Utility, and he forgot to give it back to me. This has happened before, and I was ok with it, unless I desparately needed it. I was playing with him this week, and he brought my Baffler and gave it back to me. When I got it back, I got it out to use off the first tee. I hit a grounder with it, and was confused, because I always hit it well. I looked at the head to see if it was ok, and noticed some damage to the shaft. I know this wasn't caused by me, so I expect it was something done by my mate, but am unsure what could have happened. Basically, the bottom of the shaft is really chipped and it has a couple of cuts and slices in it. I've posted pics of it. Im not sure if it makes a difference, or whether the damage is just superficial.

Its hard to tell how deep the scratches are but I'd guess they are just making a different in looks rather than performance. These could be caused by loads of things but if he did it deliberatly I'd think about making him get you a new shaft and then getting yourself a new freind.

That doesn't look like usual bag clatter,or bag rub.To do that, you would have to be throwing it back in the bag very hard, and it would need to smack against another iron.Bizarre.

OR............he threw it into the boot to give it back to you,and something heavy in there did the damage, amybe a trolley,a jack, tools, something like that.Possibly his golf trolley and the club was trapped under it in the boot.

Why are you letting other men play with your shaft anyway?

It looks mostly superficial, and the black almost looks like dried adhesive. However, take it to a club maker you know or trust, and have him take a look at it. If it does turn out to be compromised, have your friend get you a new shaft. If you want to keep the friend, just go 50/50 and get a really nice shaft.

I'd have a golf pro take a look at it.

I don't care what happened, if I borrowed someones club and caused that kind of damage I'd get it fixed. Take it to a pro or a good shop and let them look at it.
