Callaway X??

A guy had these X-tours yesterday in his bag. He hands me the 5iron and says "try this out" on a short par 4 I was teeing off 7iron. I can't believe that a tour player could or would play these things. Complete shovels. The top line was 3 times wider than mine and so was the sole. The overall clubhead was nearly twice the size. Not to mention it felt so much heavier and bulkier it was ridiculous. I ended up trying to hit a draw and just started it too far left and got a little too much pull on it. Not to offend anyone that plays these irons but I just couldn't believe how big, bulky and plain ugly they were at adress.

The X Tours are alot skinnier than any of the previous models.

I actually kinda like the look of them.

They're by far the best offerings from Cally as far as a player's club goes.

They still don't come close to emmulating anything from Mizuno, Titleist or TM in terms of forged clubs tho.

Apparently the new X tours for 2007 will have a much thinner topline. I have to agree though, they're fugly!

Now that I've read a few of these responses I am unsure?? I just said "New X tours" and the guy said "yea" and handed me the 5i. They had the X, looked brand new and had the Uniflex. They were the exact same color as the X-tours on the site but I never acually looked at the back of the cavity up close to see the model, just assumed they were cause he said so. They were huge shovels though. Easily among the biggest, clunkiest, chunkiest irons I've ever seen. It was more like hitting some kind of utility hybrid than an iron in my book. Good for distance but that's entirely it. He did mention he just bought them a few weeks ago for $800.

Those R7's are nice looking irons. I like them better than the TP's.

I like the X-Tours. Granted they're a tad too chunky, but I still like 'em. Will be most interested to see this X-Tour MK.2 that you guys speak of.

The TP MB's may be the best looking irons around IMO. If they made that set entirely in black nickel they would truly be to die for.

I think you may have been given an X18 maybe pro series and that's what caused the confusion. I have had a set of X tours they do have a thicker top line & sole but not to much more than my MP30's & there not oversized toe to heel. I can't belive that Callaway staff players used any of the Pro series irons. There just the same as the normal range but with less offset & still no feel. Give them a couple of years and Callaway will be a lot better in the forged players irons market, I'm sure buying out Ben Hogan was a starting point into forged irons.

I think you are right MG. I was just looking on Ebay. The iron I hit had that white line across the bottom and the number on the toe. (which I thought was bizarre). Also it says that the Xtour is forged, I highly doubt that 5i was forged, my Miura felt better hitting an actual rock the other day. For the life of me I swore they were the grey colored backs, not the blue. They definitely had the X, that's why I asked the guy about them. (Well that and the fact he looked the type to let me hit a couple ).
