Get clubs fitted now or wait?

hello,

I am new to golf, been playing for about a month. As for getting a set of clubs, I am going with the Mizuno mx 23's.

Should I get them fitted when I purchase them?
Reason I ask is becuase the Golfsmith salesperson said I should hit with them first for a couple of months until I find a comfortable swing as I am a beginner and then get them fitted.

Do you agree?

Thanks.

I agree with the golfsmith person. Getting fitted isn't solely your height. It is also your wrist to ground length.

Lastly, it is also important that regardless of what is recommended, when you "find" your swing, hit everything around it too. This will give you an exact answer.

Thanks Jeff.

Just based on the Golfsmith custom fit tool on the website, looks like I need +1/4 in on the length and mid sized grips.

Reason he said to get them fitted after finding a comfortable swing was becuase when he put the measuring tape on the heel of the club and had me hit balls off the plastic board, I was all over the place.

Talking

No doubts - get fitted. Great choice of club too.

Stick with them if you find it tricky at first because they will help you to play better in the long run. By that I mean you will need to concentrate on making a good swing to get the best results which is obviously a good thing.

I think buying a 1-3 year old model is the best way to start out - they are more affordable and not exactly redundant are they?

Now what driver are you getting.....?

OK, so I picked up a new set of MX 23's on eBay for $445 shipped, should be here by friday. can't wait. They are stiff flex, so my options are:

a. just get shafts replaced to regular and sell stiff shafts on eBay;

b. get completely fitted while I am at it (everything excluding loft and lie adjustment). this includes +1/4 inch in length and midsized grips.

As for driver, Golfsmith was having a sale on the TM R5 driver for $200, picked that up, type Neutral, graphite shaft, stiff flex and 10.5* loft. Been hitting ok with it but don't have any distance, right now, working on just striking the ball properly.

Thanks everyone for the input and suggestions, arghhhhhhhhh, I can WAIT!!!!

Play them a little bit, then I'd say get them fitted.

Is the R5 you're getting a Dual D or Dual N?

Anyway, CONGRATULATIONS! You are the wisest new golfer ever! Mizuno's and TaylorMade!

Thanks guys.

I went with the Dual N. Buddy of mine said afterwards that I probably should have gone with the Dual D so help with the slicing. So far, Haven't really noticed too many crazy slices as I have been concentrating on striking the ball with a moderate swing.

As for Golfsmith, that place is awesome and conveniently located 2 blocks from my office.

Will be sure to post pics when the clubs and bad arrive.
