SMT?

I was looking for a long driver, and another guy on the net offered me an SMT Shinne**** with the accuflex pro ld 50" shaft for $150. What do you guys think? I've only been into golf for a couple years, and I've really only just started looking at different equipment. I'm looking at possibly getting involved in some long drive competitions and I've seen this club talked about being used for that purpose.

Any feedback? Thanks!

SMT makes great heads, imo they are the best component company out there. They have many a long drive title under thier belt for sure. The heas you mention is a little older, but was still a great product from what I have read about it.
Accuflex also makes a great shaft, again this is an older model but I still cant really see this being a bad combo.

I would however try to get the price down to $100 - $125 for this club.

Heres a few links to the stuff you mentioned

Cool! Thanks for the reply.

I saw a couple links from the guy that wanted to sell it to me, but I wanted some input from non-biased parties. I'll probably go ahead and get it unless I hear something different in the next day or two.

If it's such a long club and works so well, why do no tour players use this head? I asked my club pro about the SMT, and he said, "is that the one by Nike?" I would figure that if it was that great, more people would be playing them.

You probably would see it on mini-tours, along with a lot of smaller manufacturers offerings. PGA pro's get paid to play certain brands. I've heard that TM even pays $7500 to anyone who tees off Taylormade, regardless of whether they continue to use it through the tournament. Now they have their "most popular driver on tour" claim. I know if I was a tour player, struggling to make it through to the next tournament/cut, I'd take just about every penny thrown my way.

As far the 50" shaft, it will be darn near impossible to control. The smallest lapse in timing will be mangified 10X.

SMT 455 DB

We have a SMT 455 DB with Fujikura shaft. An outstanding One Wood.
Anyone would using a shaft over 46" is either super coordinated to land on FWs or is really good at shooting out of the woods

You could get a brand new one for the same price, the heads are 100-120, and the shafts are 60. If you could get him down to 125 or so, i'd say go for it.

I have to say that SMT 455 looks like a bad a$$ driver. I like that you can get a custom color too.

A (very good golfer) friend will have a new SMT 455 DB this week (7 degrees!) with an Accuflex X flex Evolution shaft. He bombs his current older technology driver 300+ yards so I'll let you know how this works for him. He hits a 10.5 loft (tried my Launcher) way too high.

Cool, maybe I'll wait until he gets it and gives some feedback on it. The one I was looking at was the 7 degree, too. I'm hitting a 9 loft now, and I'm getting it pretty high as well. I also read on the SMT website that their drivers play about 1/2 degree higher than they're rated, which isn't much, but notable, I thought.

Thanks again, guys.

Here is a link to another golf forum. Look under golf equipment, lots of info on SMT products. The owner/creator of SMT posts there a lot as well.

SMT is a great head manufacturer. I have the SMT02 in 4*, 5*, 6*, 7* for long drive. With this one and the 455 Deep Bore you have to be careful as the shaft goes into the head over 2 inches so they play stiffer. I currently have mine playing as XX to XXX stiff. 50" is too long though I think mine are 46 to 47 inches and are easier to control. 150 is a little pricey for that club. Maybe 100-125.
