Nike Pro Combo Irons

I'm in the market for a new set of irons and like the look of the Nike Pro Combo. They look like great clubs and the price is fantastic (£270 for graphite shafts) on ebay. I'm just a bit skepticle of this price.

Does anyone know,
- why these irons are selling so cheaply?
- is the Nike graphite shaft any good or should I go for steel?
- I am a 5 handicapper with a swing speed of around 80mph on a 6 iron. Should I go for stiff or reg shaft?

Any advice on one or all of these questions would be appreciated.

I have hit the pro combos with stiff steel shafts and hated them. I'd stay away from nike graphite shafts too. That was part of the reason their origonal drivers sucked. Their OEM shafts are kinda crappy. If i were you I'd go demo a set. If you are set on Nike try the sling shots, they are more a a game improvment club but have great feel and you can work the ball with tem as well.

My experience was similar to Mahalleday's. I loved the look, and hated them when I hit them. Really harsh off center, with no great reward for puring on the sweet spot. Lotsa better-feeling clubs IMO.

But be sure to hit them. Opinions vary.

My neighbor plays them in steel. I don't personally like them, but he loves them. It's all personal preference.

I've had a shot of them, but just in an indoor net. I tried them and the Mizuno MP30. The Mizuno did feel a bit better, but the Nike were much more consistent. Plus I love the idea of the high irons being pure blade. At that price if I buy and don't like it'll not end the world!

Unless anyone can recommend a similar set for a similar price?

I'd have to vote for the Hogans, a few sets of the Cleveland lineup, TM RAC Tours, and the Titleist blades. All those sets feel just about the same to me.

I'd have to say the RAC's and the Cleveland's were my favorite, although all of them are great sets.

Have you tried some other models of the Mizuno's?

That was sure true at my Grandmas house. Best fried chicken ever though.

Oh, a funny grandmas house story.

The only time I ever heard my grandmother curse, or saw my grandfather run from her...

She was cooking chitlins for a neighbor who had been sick and (for whatever reason) loved chitlins. The proper way of cooking chitlins is apparently to slow-cook them on stovetop for the majority of the day. She put them on and left them to do so.

At some point in the day, my grandfather snuck into the kitchen and tossed a handful of crushed dried corn -- i.e. pigs feed-- to cook along with the chitlins.

This is probably the point to explain to those without such important knowlege what chitlins are, and hopefully the big deal that pig's feed in cooking chitlins will become apparent. Chitlins are basically pig innards, cooked into a stinking mass.

My grandmother tasted the chitlins, spit out a chunk of half-cooked corn and almost vomited. My grandfather similatneously burst out laughing and ran for the door, with her quick on his heels with a huge wooden spoon and sailor-talk echoing through the neighborhood.

She never did have much of a sense of humor.
