TM r7 Draw shaft question...

I have been demo’ing a TaylorMade r7 Draw driver ( 10*5, Regular) for the last month or so and love it. However, the price was out of my budget. Then, I was able to acquire the club head only at a very reasonable price. So now I need to shaft it and don’t know how to proceed. Can I get an OEM shaft or should I consider an aftermarket shaft? There seems to be so many shafts out there, how to I come close to the stock factory set-up? Thanks for your help and patience...
Gary

You can "make or break" that excellent club by the shaft you put in. Find out the shaft that was in the one you demoed and search Ebay for that (same flex).

If you got one of those great Ebay head only deals I recommend calling Taylormade and running the serial number. Pretty much all of the R7425, 460, and 460D head only deals are fake on Ebay.

On the shaft note, there are tons of shafts that are way better than the stock shaft in that club. Get the basics of your swing first and go from there as far as what you want in the flight. Grafalloy has a decent shaft-fitting program up on thier site. It will give you a basic recommendation.

be very very careful about buying head only clubs on ebay...

Well, I've lost confidence in the RE*AX, for whatever that is worth.

Honestly it's hard to say just one shaft, you need to find one that suits you well.

If you are looking for an Rflex let me know. I just purchased an R7425 with the Fujikura Reax in an Rflex. I will be pulling it out and would sell it cheap or trade for whatever. Same shaft as the 460.

Jeff........

The Re*Ax shaft in the TM 425, 460, and 460D clubs are worthless. Lots of hype about Fujikura making the shaft, but it's the same problem TM has had for quite some time (as well as other companies with OEM shafts)...the shafts are just horrible. I've used a R540 driver, an R5, and now a R7 460, and I've reshafted all of them and have been very happy with the results (I've used Aldila NV shafts).
It's gotten to the point that where you spend good money on a club, then some more money to put in a decent shaft. Ugh!!!!

I went through just about the same process that you're going through. I tried the TM R7 (10.5 draw) because I was having a problem with slicing the ball. And it helped, but it didn't cure the problem (my swing). Thus I started taking lessons, and now after several lessons, and many, many trips to the range I am not able to hit the ball straight most of the time.
Thus I figured I needed a new driver so I bought a 905R 9.5 driver w/ a Aldila NV 65-R shaft and I really like the way I'm hitting it now. But just for the heck of it I'm having the same shaft put on the TM R7 club head.

At least for me the shaft that comes with the TM R7 is too tip soft. The NV 65-R has more of a mid bend point. And that seems to work best for me.

Don't know what your swing speed is, but mine is @ 93-94.
