Thread: Playing characteristics of the V2 shaft?

  1. Playing characteristics of the V2 shaft?

OK, so my Hi-Bore "beast" arrived today, but I won't get to hit it until next weekend. What can I expect from the 6066S V2 shaft from UST compared to the TEE with the Comp NT shaft?

Weight - 67 grams (3 grams heavier than NT)
Torque - 2.9 degrees (0.2 less than NT)
    Butt stiffness - 267 (??)
    Mid - 7.0 (??)
    Tip stiffness - 28 (??)
    Tip length - same

What does reducing torque do to flight characteristics? What is all this butt / mid and tip stiffness carry-on?

Is this just a pile of numbers designed to confuse? Or can (some)one tell a difference? What can I expect? And I know the answer is to go out and hit some, but I like to dwell on this sort of shit. Call it the anticiptation factor.
Doctors say that you should eat 5 pieces of fruit or veg a day to remain healthy. Last week I ate 5 mouldy plums and that night I shat the bed. What's healthy about that?:shocked::shocked:

  2. Slightly higher launch angle was what I noticed between those two. Not as much feel. It's a great shaft though. I wouldn't mind one in a driver. It will "send them out there" nice for you.

The V2 favors a smoother swing tempo. I agree that the launch is slightly higher, but don't expect a high launch shaft. it's more a mid launch a la Aldila NVS. I find that if I transition more smoothly I get better results. If I get too quick or harsh in the start of the downswing things get inconsisent in a big way. Caveat- I play an R-flex, so it may stack up differently for you. Lastly, I paid no attention to the butt/mid stiffness ratings. I relied on hitting clubs with that shaft, and the launch profile info I could find on the web, like golfsmith's component catalog. The biggest thing for me was the proforce tip section. It's similar in theory to Grafalloy' micromesh in that it keeps the head from twisting so much with the 460cc heads. It was a dramatic improvement over the stock Fujikara shaft in my Redline.

These guys pretty much nailed it.

Look for less feedback, but you can really crank on it and it goes. It will feel a bit more boardy, especially in the butt section over the Comp.

In the HiBore, I found the launch to be really high with the V2 unless you tee the ball down. Like, WAY down. Remember Dad's Warbird, IG? Tee it that low. Like 3/4 of a inch off the ground. You'll kill it that way. Less spin and huge carry.

I tried the V2 actually, very nice shaft, but I just kept going back to the Graf.

  6. Get an Accuflex ICON V2 instead. After hitting one this weekend I can honestly say it is the best shaft I have ever hit, bar none. Throw anything you want at it and it delivers. I ordered 3 last night, one for my driver and two HL versions for my 3 wood and hybrid.

    Lyle,

Did you consider the FH for your 3 wood? Apparently, it's "what's going on" for FW's these days.

  8. Rock,

That is the one I got. HL was for my hybrid. Not enough coffee yet.

Get a V2 or the original ICON if you are an animal, this shaft is just dynomite.

I am putting the ICON V2 in this head as well, 9 degree low spin, hand picked .5 degree open, should be a monster.

I'm debating the FH or the Evo for my FW's. I like the weight and consistency of the EVO, but everyone screams for the FH in the FW's.

I guess I could get one of each, see how it goes.

    Roger that R35!
Can't wait till Friday / Saturday. I will test it against the TEE and report back (assuming I'm not swinging it like a cracked up 2 dime huzzey!!)

V2 favours a smoother swing speed? In my expereince,it favours a gorilla like lunge at the ball, but maybe thats just me.

I agree with dave (did I really say that??)

As i've said before, my experience is with an r- flex shaft, so your experiences may vary. It could very likely be my swing that F's it all up when I get aggresive. Ginsu=can slice anything:o . I do think it plays a shade stiff to flex(I'm not to be considedered authoritative on this either, as i know jack), so that could contribute to your different experience, if you've hit a stiffer shaft. All I do know is the shaft was recommended to me based on my swing characteristics, and has worked very well w/ my swing...now, if I could just get the putter(meaning me) to cooperate...

  14. #14
Nope, not in regular flex. Hit one in regular and it goes.

Just because the shaft has "stiff" written on it doesn't mean you should be wealing it.

Try hitting the regular flex and just put a good move on it. It'll go.

PS>..I can hit the V2 really well, but you really gotta go after it in the stiff flex....
