Try taking pictures indoors with shitty light of chrome irons. It ain't happenin'.

WBL, they keep them going because they're still selling them. You don't mess with success. Although, with the introduction of the new 25's, you'll probably see the 23's move on. And same goes with the 33's, the 32's and probably the 30's as the new cavity back's are released.

Last I heard, there were a few sets left, but no customization available. At least, that's what my guy told me.

  7. Okay, let's compare the MP-30's you use R35 and my Ping G5's.

They're both cavity back game improvement clubs correct?

The MP-30's are forged soft steel and the Pings are cast stainless steel

The Pings probably(?) have more offset and a wider sole.

I would not play a blade anymore. I had a former college golfer friend who was sub-scratch (held the amateur record at Black Wolf Run and may still hold it) who played forged blades all his life and bought Hogan Edge forged CB irons in the early 90's whenver they just came out. He worked those irons as well as anyone would be able to work true blades and was playing those when he set the BW record. I watched the guy go from amazing to phenom with just those game improvement clubs. He also re-built my whole ugly swing back then and turned it into my new ugly swing (actually it ain't too bad.....)

So, I'm thinking this is why Mizzy's work so well? They are half blade and half GI like the old Hogan Edge?

I would call the MP-30's more of a players muscleback. I can't see much of a cavity andthey certainly aren't GI

Bottom one is a MP-30 and looks like a CB to me similar to the forged Hogan Edge irons that started that trend.

The Mp-30 is definitely a cavity back, BUT, not game improvement. The 33's are MB/blades. Two different breeds altogether.

Rule of thumb, and many pros will agree:

Mp-33: Players iron. If you're shooing 77 or less everyday, play these irons.

Mp-30: For the better player, but not the high handicapper. These are more fogiving than the 33's, so if you're a weekend warrior and spend less than 2 days a week playing golf and you still shoot 83 or less, they'll work wonders for you.

Mp-23/25: These are game improvement and will do just that. Wider sole, offset (slight) in the longer irons to help improve your score. Why wouldn't you want to shoot better if your normal score is 90-110?

I think alot (ALOT) of guys get it in their head that they should play players irons to "get better". I disagree. It makes ZERO sense for someone to play Mp-33's only to carry two hybrids. If you can't consistently hit your 3 iron straight and with some sense of accuracy, your ball striking isn't good enough to consistently play a players iron.

They make "game improvement" irons for a reason. And, they make transition irons like the Mp-30 for a reason too. If you're shooting high 80's with 23's, maybe try something like an Mp-60 or an Mp-30. And, if you start shooting 70's after that, keep the bloody 30's.

I can't stress enough that if the equipment you have is getting you good scores, don't think that a set of irons is going to make you shoot better. That's not true. Alot of guys pick up players irons and hit the range for days, wanting to prove to themselves that they can hit them. And, if they spent that much time at the range with their current set, they'd play just as well.

  11. I actually find the 33's more forgiving than the 30's.

I am not alone in this thought either. The mizuno 30 forgiveness debate has been talked about to death over at BSG. Do a search on MP-30 forgiveness, and you'll see what I mean.

R35 and I will have to agree to disagree for once on this one.

Edit - your G5's are MILES more forgiving than either of these clubs in comparison.
