    demons Irons, MP-33's

Ok, I kind of hijacked the tread so I created a new one. Here is a pic of (top to bottom) 8 Iron, 9 Iron, and PW. As you can tell the lower they go the more I open the face of the club. These clubs have 13.5 months on them so I have played about 80 - 90 rounds and have hit probably 25,000 plus balls at the range. Most used club at the driving range is the 6 Iron because I have 3 of them just for the driving range.

Im kinda wondering how my 9 iron isnt more marked up.... its the most solid club in my bag and i hit thousands of shots solid with it.... Then again i have a really slow tempoed swing when im hitting it good...

Also i believe my Taylormade are made with a not as soft metal as your 33s...

What's the number before the Steel(i.e. 1025 Carbon Steel) on your TMs Piper? Warbird taught me about this.

Also, I hit my 7 an incredible amount, and it's still pretty clean. Shoot, Sling had my 33s before me, and Rock before him. And if there's one thing you can count on, Canadians are hard on their clubs,

    Not so true.

Wear on the face like that is from frequenting ranges and courses that have a high sand mix in their turf. We have alot more clay/gumbo around here, so not so much of a problem.

That's why those 33's are still the shiz.

My used 30's had more wear on them from the 5 rounds that they guy played with them then I've put on them to date. They still the shiz, ya'll.

    Canadians. Keepers of the Forged.

Guys, according to Wishon, while the starting material for forged clubs is softer, the finished product is usually indistinguishable. He mentioned tests where pros hit multiple shots with multiple clubs in which some were forged, some cast in the same shape, and they couldn't tell the diff.

Not that I don't agree that forged typically "feel" better, but that could be due to shafts, grips, head design, sound, etc...

While I disagree with your statement (somewhat), I will agree with Wishon. Higher end castings do feel similar to forged, to where it's difficult to tell the difference.

However, poor castings made from cheaper metals are the devil's tools. Gawd awful.

    Good point tho, Josh.

As much as I hate to admit it, the Ping S59s do feel pretty nice, for cast clubs.

We don't have a terribly high sand content in our turf, so that must be it.

I dont know, but if anyone happens to know wat my irons are made of (i searched Tmade site and found nothing) id be very interested...

I do have a very high sand content on the grass tee's at my range? So either it must be the irons or im not as good as i think:(

  12. The wear is from the chrome coating on the 1025 carbon steel that is flaking off due to increased strikes. Really has nothing to do with what kind of material is underneath (assuming carbon steel - obviously stainless or castings would not necessarily have a chrome plating)

Mizuno is known to be some of the worst as far as chrome sweetspot wear in their older clubs. Their newer stuff doesn't wear quite as easily.

On those clubs most of the range sessions were on mats, in the past few months I have hit them on grass at the range. The only areas you will see a lot of sand mixed with turf is on the tee boxes.

Hogans. Every set of Hogan's I've ever seen has a huge wear spot on the PW-8 iron, even after one season.

And that's only 5 months here.
