Well, I haven't hit a 300yd. drive since dropping below 170lbs. As far as short game? Eat 30.6PPR/1.7 PPH.... Just don't ask how many greens I hit. lol.

I didn't mean putting ONLY meant chipping If we had to include putting I couldn't say what I'm going to do. 30 putts one day on 18 and 30 putts the next day for 9!!

Also didn't mean to imply that the most expensive equipment is the best. I only meant you shouldn't limit yourself to what you try. Believe me, when I spent the afternoon on the launch monitor trying drivers, I wanted the HiBore (on sale) to be the club. But it wasn't. And as far as what I spend, I've said this before, is "mad money" I make off a hobby and it's for playing. It doesn't come out of the family budget or cause any hardships in regard to paying bills. I'm at a time in my life (finally) where I have this to play with and boy am I ever having fun!!

I personally can't stand SC Putters, mainly because I like a soft insert and SC's just feel lousy to me. Although if forced to, I likely would have payed the same price for my current Odyssey White Hot XG as they charge for SC. Spending that kind of money is not the issue for me if I feel it is that much better than what I can find for cheaper. I had the option to buy a brand new Futura Phantom marked down to not much more than the $119 I paid for the White hot XG in my bag. Was it a great deal? Certainly for someone else, although to me it would have been throwing money away and at the expense to my game.

I tried one at the pro shop a month ago and must admit it is sweet!!!
    Maybe in the future.
When asked how to put back spin on a i7,
Trevino said how far do you hit it?
The guy said 120yds and Trevino said why do you want to back it up?

  9. Most people don't mind dropping a few hundred on a driver that they will use only a few times per round of golf. However they balk at the thought of spending that kind of money on a club they will use at least 30 times per round. I know for a fact that I shave more strokes off of my score with my putter than my driver.:smilie_ti

  10. This discussion mirrors a discussion that goes on in the cycling (bi- not motor-) community. The price tag on the lightest, trickest gear can climb quickly. A debate rages about whether the weekend club cyclist should be spending the big dollars on equipment that only the hard core racers are going to see all the benefits of.

**Warnig, generalization coming so don't flame**
More often than not you would fine an older gentlemen, with a more stable income, on the most tricked out gear. He doesn't race, hell, he barely has time to ride other than the weekend because he's making his big $$. Next to him would be a young racer on decent stuff, but not as nice as the older guy's bike. The young guy doesn't have the disposable $$ but has plenty of tme to train and therefore can ride the older guy into the ground. Because of this, the younger guy feels the older guy doesn't "deserve" the equipment or says things like "he's not even strong enough for those wheels!"
    **Generalization over**

The debate really has two parts; 1) what kind of money do you have to "play" with and 2) what value to you put on these items. Those two things can be mutually exclusive but they don't have to be, again, depends on the individual.

Btw, regarding the "generalization," I learned to buy the older guy's stuff whenever he upgraded (which was fairly regularly).

  11. I'm one of those crazy people who have a several Camerons and can't see myself ever stepping down to something else. If you compare prices with other milled putters they're sold new at a premium over comparable putters. For example, Ping's Redwood & Odyssey's new milled will MSRP at about $250, Scotty's MSRP is about $50 higher.

Realistically, most people (myself included) can't justify a Scotty in the bag on a purely performance standpoint. I putt better with a Scotty, but it's in my head. If I had confidence in any thing else, I'd probably use it.

BTW, here's my current gamer. Last round was 32 putts, for a 20 handicapper that's not too bad. It's wicked!

It must be awful to have to work for a living.

Putters are all about what fit the eye IMO. If you are happy with the looks at address then thats half the battle won. The other half of the battle is getting one that you love the feel of.

As for Scotty's I picked up a Red X for £70 on ebay. I love the feel and weight of the head. I also have an American Classic III which I picked up for £65 off ebay, this is my back up putter it's so easy to swing straight back and through and excellent on really quick greens.

I would pay £350+ for a driver that I use 14 times a round but won't pay over £100 for a putter I use over twice as many times aper round, strange?
It's a 1st run FTi - Tour Issue he says.

    I hate the f'in Snow ! ! ! !

I tried the new Odyssey at Golfsmith the other night. it felt great and it is absolutely gorgeous! It ain't $250 though, try MSRP $400! I couldn't justify spending the extra $100 over the SC.

And don't forget about Nike's new Unitized series; they're coming in at $250.

I agree with the posters who say that it ain't the arrow, it's the indian. It doesn't matter what a putter costs. It only matters that you like it, and have confidence in it. I personally own about 20 putters - four of them are Scottys. One of the Scottys, a Futura, is like a garden spade made of toilet paper. I can't putt with it to save my life. Another one, a Napa, is heel-shafted and doesn't fit my style. But the Futura Mallet is my current favorite. I've been playing with it for a few years now, and, despite the fact that I've bought other putters in the interim, I always come back to it. It has the best feel of any putter I've ever owned or tested, and I've owned or tested a lot of putters.

And Sandpiper, I'm an 18 handicap, and using this expensive putter improves my game. I think you are making a bad generalization when you say that anyone over a 10 cap shouldn't play with an expensive putter. I putt well enough that it makes a difference to me (the other parts of my game are - well- other). If I had a $20 putter that I putted better with, I would use it. And I would not feel that only 30+ cappers should play with such a cheap tool.
"Maybe he could sell it on Ebay, say it looks like the Virgin Mary, Sergei Fedorov, or Leno."

The only SC's that are truely expensive are the Circle T's and some of the Protos. The regular off the shelf stuff isnt so bad. The circa's are kind of expensive at regular retail stores.
