Thread: Which ball for slow swing speed?

  1. Which ball for slow swing speed?

I have a swing speed of about 90-92 mph with my driver and am looking for a golf ball that would best fit my swing speed. I don't know much about all the technology of golf balls ie. one piece, two piece. Can anyone recommend a good ball for a lower swing speed? Also I don't want anything too expensive since I tend to lose about 1/2 dozen balls per round.

  2. My dad has been crushing DT-Solo's. He also liked HX-hots, till he had to use them around the greens. His fav's now are the Solo's and the HX-tours. He might be closer to 100mph. and hit's a high draw around 250-260 with an old Dunlop driver. It has no loft or flex written on it but I figure it to be around 9-9.5* and definitely an R flex with a mid/low bendpoint.

Let's see... I'd recommend ProV's and let me know which course you play. I'll follow along behind with ball retreiver and scuba gear!!! LOL

The SoLo's recommended by other posters are great. You should be able to find those in the $20 to $25 range. Other than those, try the Crystal Volvik's, Precept Laddie's, or the Noodles. Any of these should work for the slower swing speeds and all should be able to be found at slightly less cost than the Titleists. Good luck!!!!

I am sure you would. I couldn't afford to play golf if I used ProV's and lost as many as I do.

I am going to pick up some of the DT Solo's this afternoon to use this weekend. Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

  6. If you like them I'd suggest trying some used ones. You can get them for less than 1/2 price in mint condition used. If you lose that many, that often, going for like 7 or 8 dozen used would last you a while without spending $20 every week or 2.

  8. The ones mentioned are good balls and I would also recommend
    70+MPH - Srixon Soft Feel
    80+mph - Srixon AD-333

Both are great off the tee but have nice feel. I can get them for $20/dozen or it I buy 3 dozen I can get a break for $16.50/dozen.

I don't have a slow swing speed but like the AD-333 in the winter and often play them in the summer.

  9. I agree Poe4, AD 333 is a good ball off the tee and decent around the greens. I'd compare it to an NXT. The durability, however, is not too good. I have one I played about 1 1/2 rounds with, it's unplayable now. Scuffs galore and a few minor cracks in the cover. Not an issue if you lose one or 2 a round anyway. I tend to lose one or 2 but somehow this Srixon keeps hanging around. I'm gonna have to retire him to the range.

I'm really interested to learn more about the Srixon balls. Haven't played them, but hear nothing but good things! Still have 10 dozen of so ProV's that will take me, probably, to the end the swings the Good Lord has put in this ol' body. Passed up a great deal on Srixon's at our club this past month. Some sort of introductory deal where you got a free winter stocking hat with a dozen at a really competitive price. Sounds like you are another one who has had great luck with them.

  11. The AD-333 is very nice ball. I tried a dozen at the beginning of the season and was very pleased.

It's funny that Poe4soul mentioned that they use it for a winter ball. Last year for my son's science fair project he decided (okay, I had some input) to alter the balls core temperature and measure the effects. I was quite surprised how well the "frozen" AD-333 performed in the testing. The ball that was affected the most by a "frozen" core was the 3-piece Titleist NXT Tour.

  12. In the store I buy all my toys most of the salesmen are playing the Srixon ball. They can get a discount on any premium ball and they just rave about them. Everything they've told me has been spot on so far so I have no reason to doubt them. I'm just so happy with my HX Tours I'm reluctant to try something different (especially at the premium ball prices) but might have to.

At my swing speed of around 116, even I like the DT Solo, it's just a good all around ball.

For something else, I still really think the Precept Lady is an all around very good ball.

Have you posted the results of your son's testing? I'm relatively new to the DB but would die for the information he gleaned with his science project. We who play in such different ambient temperatures, during a year, see ball temperatures vary considerably. I never felt the temps really made that much difference between most of the 'new' technology balls. But, what I think I'm hearing from you is that, brand to brand, there may well be some effect.
