Thread: To E or not to E, that is the question...

To E or not to E, that is the question...

So my Pops picks me up a dozen E5's for X-mas. Initially, I'm thinking about trading them in for some HX's. But after putting around with them and doing a few "scientific" tests (wedge bounces and putter face sound comparisons ), i'm thinking of giving these a go. They feels pretty soft covered, which I like.

The only thing that worries me is the increased spin they produce. That's gonna balloon on a driver, I'm thinking. I hit a high enough driver as it is, I'm not sure that the increased spin will help.

Anyone have an opinion on these balls? More importantly, more than one round's worth of experience?

    Thanks in advance,

  2. I've played both the E5 and E6 this summer (hole in one with E5) and they are good balls. (Didn't see much difference between the two). Not as long as a HX Tour off the driver but really good for irons. I was ballooning like mad with my other drivers last summer but don't remember that problem using these balls. Best balls I've found in the $20-$25 range. And they hold up really good. I played these most of the summer when I couldn't afford to lose a HX Tour.

I bought some with pro shop credit I won in a tournament recently. I meant to get the E6 cause they are supposed to be just a bit softer but, they seem to be decent enough balls. They are firmer feeling to me than other Precept/Bridgetone balls I've hit but probably very similar to the ProV1x. They are certainly not RockFlites by any stretch. I wouldn't make them my main ball but I'll hit 'em till they are gone. The Precept ball I really liked was the "Powerdrive" but they have been discontinued and are increasingly hard to find. I must have bought them all up when they were being closed out at 11 to 14 dollars a dozen.

For the sake of trying them you're as far on to keep them. They'll do well at the start of the season when you're getting back into the swing of things

It does a balloon the driver, only reason I don't play them. They are just awesome around the green and even with short irons, but I hit my driver and was very disappointed.

Boourns. This was my concern. I already bring rain with my driver (even with 8* loft and a mid bend shaft), so I don't need the help. The plus with the HX.56's are that they mimick the HX.Tour off the driver, but spin like Taz around the greens, which is why I love them.

Hmm....dilemma. (Look for HX.56's in my bag soon....lol)

How awesome is it that when I head to the shop, all the guys laugh as I walk in. Apparently, they had some bet going as to when I'd return them. They had a box of "the usual" waiting behind the till for me.

    HX.56's in house.
