Am I the only one...

...who could really care less what clubs the pros are playing?

I know that with my game and swing speed, the chance of any club in my bag truly being the same as any club in a pros bag is less than slim to none. I mean, how many pros are out there playing rac OS2 shovels with the stock reg. flex shaft? I'm guessing.....NONE!

Ok, I feel better now.

This is not a rant on anyone here or any thread here, just a general question.

Anybody else feel this way?

I like to know, but it really doesn't influence what I buy.

I'm more apt to research equipment for me based on others that have similar swing characteristcs/flaws. That way, i have a pretty good idea what I'm getting into.

I can tell you right now, an XX flex Diamana Whiteboard isn't for me, so Veej isn't getting me to be a follower.

I hope I've learned enough not to buy clubs based on what anyone plays, pro or otherwise.

That's one of things I figured out after spending so much time on line with of you ho's.

That's actually the only time I find it quite interesting - when a pro has a totally surprising club or two in their bag. Like when one of the golf mags shows Trevor Immelman was using a Nike Slingshot OS 2iron, not even the 'tour' model, or the bag of Dana Quigley showing his move to 3 hybrids and a 4th on the way.

The only other thing I enjoy is seeing how customised their equipment, or how little it has in common with the off-the-shelf versions of what they play.

I love reading about "Whats in the Bag" and I have no idea why because I know that it rarely resembles anything I could get my hands on and it has no influence on what I play. I just like to see for some reason.

I don't even know who uses what on Tour. For people some it's news, for me it's immaterial.

In fact, I'm far more likely to try something on the recommendation of a friend who plays a game I'm more familiar with than I am because Tiger or Phil uses it.

I sometimes find the customizations or crazy loft/flex combos they hit to be intrigueing. As far as playing a brand? I could care less. Heck, the best player in world plays utter $hit for equipment. I play what I believe works well for me and, of course, is a hoing score. I know I could play many lesser irons than the Miura's and score the same... but how cool is having the only set in the area?

I like to notice certain "unique" things such as Lumpy or Calcavechia playing Ping Eye 2 irons............they know what works for them and don't change. That also must mean that Ping still makes these for them in some dark remote corner of their factory.

I don't care what the pros use. It doesn't influence have any influence on what I buy. However, I am curious about how pros customize their clubs to fit them.

I was going to post something along the lines of that to but then I came to the conclusion that Lyle is a pretty knowledgeable person when it comes to golf and he probably already knows this.

I decided he was referring to the specs of his disgusting non Wilson Staff "clubs". ie, shaft flex, length, lie angle ect..

Who knows whats going on in that mind.

Did anyone else see the skills contest VJ was in with Mickelson and some others a few years ago? One of the shots was a green approach over the water with the ball under some trees. Everyone hit their shots, and VJ was closest to the pin. Then, just for fun, VJ asked to hit a 2nd shot with Mickelson's club...he put that one INSIDE of his winning shot.

To speak like my kids....VJ's got mad skills...

btw, my memory could be wrong on the specifics...correct me/add to the info as necessary.

I really could care less. I would be more apt to follow what is in the bag of Champions Tour players, or more appropriately for me, the LPGA.

I have found that they more resemble my average distance for the average person on the LPGA. I figure looking at the PGA I have to go down to 153 to find a player that averages with a driver what I do on most good shots, then there are only 6 to choose from, and I am betting all of them hit a 7i more than 150 yards, well maybe not Corey Pavin, but it would be close. So maybe I should look at what is in Pavin's bag.

153 123 Jim Furyk 8 265.0 4,240 16
154 125 David Toms 8 264.4 4,231 16
155 129 Ben Curtis 10 262.1 5,242 20
156 130 Kirk Triplett 8 260.4 4,166 16
157 128 Stephen Ames 5 259.3 2,593 10
158 131 Corey Pavin 11 248.5 5,467 22

Kinda surprised me to see Furyk and Toms that low on that list, but I guess that is only based on 16 drives, so I am sure they will soon be out of my range as well, as in current conditions even Pavin averages more than I do on only good shots. I think if I figure my real average including the 50 yard duck hooks and such, I may be towards the bottom of the womens list in the 230 range
