Finding THAT putter

I am still searching for a putter that gives me that special feel. I have had an Anser in manganese bronze for years and do ok (but no better) with it but I find it a bit lively. In June I switched to a white steel Odyssey 2-ball but although I quite like the feel I find it a bit "clunky" and cumbersome. I recently traded an old club for a used Yes Sophia (wanted to try a blade) and am still getting to know it but I'm not convinced it's "the one".

Basically I want to tinker about a bit for the next couple of months before the season get going more in the spring and by then find one I like and stick with it. I have been looking at these and have tried the ones with comments in the proshop.

Scotty Cameron Red X - Really liked this. Less chunky than the 2ball and lovely feel.

Odyssey White Hot XG 9

Scotty Cameron Studio Design No.5

Scotty Cameron PP Newport Mid Slant - My friend has this putter and I have used it on the practice green. Very nice but I think I prefer a mallet style as long as its not too big.

Seemore Brass/Black FGP - Never used one but I seem to recall someone on here getting one of these - I'd be interested to hear what they think and how well the alignment system works.

I would welcome any thoughts and suggestions for other types as well your thoughts on my 2 month plan to search for a "keeper". I know I have to try and try and try and try again until something magical happens and I am aiming at the higher end brands but maybe there's something for much less I should give a go?

I don't go by feel or sound. I go by what works on the long putts best. I finally bought a 2-ball because every time in the store trying out putters the 2-ball for some odd (odyssey?) reason was like magic in my hands.

try a Rife 2-Bar, its a little big which might not be what you're looking for, but it makes up for it in accuracy, feel, and an incredibly smooth takeaway. i'm looking to pick one up as soon as a decently priced one comes up on ebay.

You haven't found THAT putter for reasons already mentioned, you haven’t hit a 2-bar mallet!?. If you hit it, you will most likely but it on the spot.

I LOVE MINE.

Try using a 100 gram back weight in the putter you like the best.
I went from being a terrible putter to being called the money man on my Sunday morning best ball team.
Many, many people share similar stories to mine when they bacweight their putters.
I use this backweight, all though a 100 gram carraige bolt from home depot would work just as well.

Just goes to show what works for one person.... I have zero distance control with a mallet such as the 2ball. It's nice inside 4ft. but from 24ft., forget it. If you like the mallets though, try the Futura Phantom.

I liked the Yes putters for a blade. I currently am back with my Wilson Kirk Currie 2. I hit one of these at a Proshop at a course and liked it. I picked it up on Ebay for $60 new ($100 less than the shop) and have been using it for 2 1/2 yrs. I also have a spare that I will use should the KC2 start shaking my confidence.

2 Ball is nice and works reasonably well, the 3 Ball is a magic wand when I have tried it, I just can't get over the way it looks. I might actually shave 7-8 strokes if I played it, but as you all know by now I am retarded, so I won't.

Well, technically the KC2 is still in the "bad putter" corner. I will have it back in when I next play, a few weeks hopefully. That Tear Drop is decent but the KC2 is heavier and has a weight in the sole and in the shaft. I can't update it yet, the KC2 will know and think it is safe again.

These are the 2 putters I have. They are both 33 inch which is something I have only just switched to in the past 6 months, I always just used the stock 35 inch that most shops stock most of. I love the feel of the XG face it is the softest face I've ever used and is perfect for fast greens. The Red X is my back up putter and I switch to this if I'm playing somewhere with slow greens. If you like the 2 Ball then try it in either White hot or XG rather than the White Steel. In fact try any of the XG range they feel superb.

Actually after a few hours practice today with the Sophia I think I may have hit the jackpot.

Perhaps a bladed putter is more my thing but I just never knew it. I think I'll trade the Odyssey in for something else anyway just to get an idea of another model but I have got a feel for the Sophia now and I like it.

I am also employing the "Quiet Eye" technique that I think Dave posted on here somewhere. It helps focus the mind without getting too wrapped up in too many things.

Cheers for all the advice etc. Much appreciated as always.

Despite liking the Sophia I just bought this fella. Went for less than I was expecting so stuck in a bid and won it. It's in great nick and has all the toys.

I tried one recently and loved it and have been looking about with some advice from the Prince of Ho's (Ez is king) Manchester Golfer which was really useful on price guides so thanks MG.

Glad you got sorted out mate. How much did you 'steel' it for then? I got my Scotty Cameron Bullseye today, picked it up for £40 shipped from the Bay. I've had it cut down to 33 inches tonight, can't wait to give it a run out tomorrow.
