Bending an iron loft

I'm thinking of keeping the MP60 3iron in my bag temporarily to save a few bucks. I hit it fairly well, good enough to have in the bag and better since I added the lead tape. I now have 5W, 3i, 5i in the bag. I would like to pick up a 21* Sonartec to go with the VS-proto shaft I have. So I am thinking of bending the 21* 3iron up to a 23-23.5*. Anything problems with this I should consider? Weight, loft, lie, bounce? If I do this I will most likely reshaft it with a stiffer shaft as it has an R300 in it now.

With a 3 iron, bending it open a tad won't make much of a difference in terms of bounce. But bending it to 23* will just make it a 4 iron, which is basically your goal.

Why not just carry the 4?

For each degree of loft you add you also add one degree of bounce, reverse this removing loft. Adding loft will also create a small amount offset. By going from 21* to 23.5* you will be adding 2.5* of bounce. You might find this a bit much for a 4 iron.

I don't have a 4iron. I only have 5-PW of the Miura's. A 4iron will cost me $150 with a matching Nippon shaft. This is just a temporary solution. I may or may not ever end up with the 4iron.

I'll check the specs from Mizuno and Miura. See how much different the bounce will be.

oh and pull the 757 in the 510tp and put it in a quad head. - you know its the best combo of distance, accuracy and forgivness you've hit.

I've been looking at those RAC TP's for a while, factory Rifle 6.0's. I'm kind of holding out on doing a whole lot because I want to see how the 5W plays. I could always get rid of it for a 18 or 19* hybrid. I like your idea, so hard to think of parting with the Miura's though.

BTW- I haven't found the Mizzy specs but a Miura 3iron has a 0 bounce and a 4iron has 3. 21 and 24* respectively.

Will do. As far as the swap into an R7 it has crossed my mind. I've had my eye out for more of the 510TP's cheap with the Speeder shafts. I could have grabbed a quadTP with a Speeder S for like $160 last week. Of course a Superquad 9.5* with the real Rombax I have is another thought.

Yikes, so now you would have almost as much bounce as the 9 iron.

Yep, cancel that one on account of Mizuno's retarded bounce progression. It would work perfect with the Miura's. My 9 and PW actually have an 8 bounce, awesome.
