Need your shaft flex recommendation.

Went down to the simulator today and was hitting around a 110 swing speed average. My first two drives were 112 and 113 and my lowest was 105 at the end. I noticed I got tired pretty quick today I haven’t hit a ball in 4 months and I hit my driver last today. I was carrying the ball 265-285, my swing felt ok today but not great and my ball flight was not vary consistent both left and right of the target line. Should I stay with a stiff flex or do you think going to an X-Stiff could help me with accuracy/dispersion.

I would say stiffer in those NV's for sure. I am near your speed and can play both an S and X. I've noticed that the X's I've played give me more accuracy for sure. The S flex's may be a bit longer but not as accurate. I'd say give an X a shot. We are like the guys in the high 90's to low 100's, they can go R for distance, S for control.

I had good luck with the GrafNT proto in an X and even better is the Speeder 757-X. I just got another 3wood, this one has the VS proto in an 80-X. It's a nice shaft. Very accurate, very boring flight. My shots stayed 15feet off the ground from 50yds. to 225yds.

I have hit a speeder before it was one of the best feeling shafts I have hit and it was in an X. I would have bought one if golf galaxy had one. The guy at golf galaxy talked me into a NV65-S I like it better than my UST V2-75.

Nothing wrong with that. The NV plays notoriously soft for the flex though. The V2 should play considerably stiffer in an S than the NV in an S. I hit the V2- S in a 905R and I'd say it is pretty close to a Speeder in an X.

The V2 stiff in the bore thru 905R should play about the same flex as the Speeder X-stiff in the non-bore thru 510.

Actually most NV's dont measure weak to flex. They just have a soft feel to them.

Ok, my bad. The VS Proto is a nice shaft. I like that one a lot in the 3W, insane boring.

If you like the Speeder, try an S flex NVS. It's surprisingly stiffer and launches alot better than the NV. At least for me, it does (112 SS).

Love the NVS stiff (107 mph ss) in mine. Best shaft I've ever hit..

I hit the ball high and I have had soft tip shafts before and I need about an 7.5 or 8* head for them to work After playing a NV for awhile I think I like the stiffer tip. Ever since switching to graphite shafts a few years ago it just seems that I’m not as accurate with my driver. I just wonder if I switch to an X would help. I kind of have my mind made up about what shaft I would go to if I make the change 1st choice would be the VS Proto 70-x, 2nd would be a the Speeder 757-X. Where can you get new Speeders anyways ebay? I don’t think my local golf shop would put a shaft in if I didn’t buy it from him, would a Golf Smith or Golf Galaxy install shafts not bought from them.

GS or GG will install any shaft into any head for a fee. No worries there. GS sells Fujikura, I saw them there in Texas.

That being said, I find that the NVS is a stiffer tipped shaft than the NV. I am a high ball hitter myself, and I normally play an 8.5* lofted driver.

If you want a tighter dispersion, you could try the Accuflex Evolution. It's an extremely solid shaft and is extremely reliable when it comes to repeatability. Next to the Grafalloy Blue, the best shaft for the money, in my opinion.

What are you putting the shaft in? If it is a Taylormade driver I highly recommend looking for an R510TP with a Speeder 757-X. It is a real Speeder with the TP graphics. I can put a picture up of mine if you want, it's a nice looking shaft. I've seen the 510's go for less than $100 with the Speeder. Also there are a lot of TP pulls on Ebay for a decent price. You will save $200 over the cost of a new Speeder from Golfsmith or wherever.

Let me know if you need help finding a shaft. I can find pulls like crazy. X flex's are very easy to come by. The R and especially S flex's are more in demand. I could probably find a VS-70X pull for under $75 if you give me a few weeks.

Oh, just thought I'd mention this too. At the shop I go to they have a driver that was traded in from PGA pro Patrick Sheehan. They have a $299 tag on it. It is an R7460 TP 9.5* Tour issue, Txxxx serial number and has the TP Reax shaft in a 75-X. They said they have the TP headcover and weight kit. The only thing I saw wrong with it was a little touch up paint where they used heat on the hosel to adjust loft or lie. I would imagine that was done on the TM van, nobody played it but Sheehan, came straight from his father. LMK if you are interested and I could talk to the manager and see if they could take a credit card by phone or whatever.

Just food for thought.

I just picked up a new R7 460 a few weeks ago and it came with a NV65 installed by TM. I might wait until I hit a few more times before making a change. I take it a pulled shaft plays the same as a new shaft, is it harder to instal into the head?

I go through this every off season, I over analyze my equipment and how it works for me. The one thing that keeps me coming back to the idea that I need a stiffer shaft is that ever since switching to graphite driver shafts I have lost a lot of accuracy.
