Broken spine (shaft)

What about a broken spine does this happen? I had a good swing a week ago with a stiff shaft and heard the sound of somthing crack? Now shot disspersion is everywhere...and it seems to have turned back into a regular flex. At first I thought it was the ball becuase of the corkscrew flight, but the ball was a Nike Platinum and turned out to be fine. Can a spine be broken and change the shaft without completely failing? Its a fujikura Stiff flex and I have already bought a x-stiff to replace it.

You can't really break the spine of a shaft. If you heard a crack, the shaft probably broke.

Check the face. If it's caved, look for stress marks. If not, have a look at the shaft. If you can, pull the grip. It might be in the butt section.

Often, if shafts are clamped too tightly when they are being worked on, they can be stress enough that they will last a while and then fail.

Sounds like you need a new shaft, anyways. That sucks.

I looked it up and down yet no stress marks or cracks in the clear coat. No cracks on the face ,It just flexes more. I bought another r7 460 tp in a 9.5 x-stiff off ebay for 242.50, last friday. So if this shaft goes on me, I will have a good reason to hack away. I have some experience with carbon fiber And I guess it could have been extra resin in the shaft that cracked, or it is doomed for catostrophic failure.

I would say that it's probably compromised. Internally more than anything.

It could last another two months, or the next shot could send the head flying down the fairway. (The latter option will obviously happen on a hole with water off the tee, sending you into a rage frenzy. If this happens, I want a full report. )

Been there, done that...sunny day, chrome finish 7 iron, approach over the water. Club head glinting in the sun as it splashes into the lake.

Ball wound up 6 feet from the flag!

Was I pissed?
