Question Changing driver length

How much would changing driver length effect swingweight ? If I cut my driver down from 45.75 to 45 or 44". Would it also change the flex much ?

LyleG could tell you the approximate swingweight points per half inch, if I recall correctly it was something like 2 points per half inch.

Cutting the shaft from the butt end will not initially change the flex, but if you add some additional headweight to compensate for the reduced swingweight, you will weaken the flex just a bit.

I cut my driver down to 44.25" and it dropped to a little over a C8 swingweight. I added a little weight and brought it up to D2 and it is an awesome feeling driver. (Titleist 905R, Accuflex Evo-Lite Stiff shaft)

EDIT-1: DRIVER = 44.25" NOT 42.25"

An inch = 6 swingweight points

1 swingweight = 1 cpm more or less.

So if you shorten your driver by an inch(butt trim) it will swing lighter(obviously) and might feel slightly stiffer.

For u geniouses with clubweight stuff. I got grafalloy bimatrix 77g shaft. Then had it extended an inch to play at 44.75". What will the swingweight for that be?

If no weight is added to the shaft or head I would guess right around D1 to D1.5

I think, pragmatically, the best solution is this:

You want to find a length that feels no different than the next closest length to you, or minimally, but gives better results. Thus, the feel of the club is the same, and has good results.

This is funny because pragmatically it's a good solution, ideally.
