Shingle Creek, Orlando

Shingle Creek in Orlando is part of the Rosen Conference Center on Universal Blvd. The course is a beautiful David Harman Design featuring water on 16 of the 18 holes with over 100 sand traps. The course has numerous mounds and subtle contours throughout. No houses or condos, but rather is built around the main conference building that is very nice looking and does not intrude at all with the vistas of the course. The greens are Bermuda grass and in terrific shape. From the tips you are looking at 7228 yards with a 75.1/139 slope. We played the golds (one step down from the championship box) at 6758 with a 71.7/134 rating. Wind conditions range from mild to massive and always deliver a nice challenge to the well bunkered greens. The round cost $137 with cart and tax. Don't know too many people who played this track or even know about it, but it was very nice. Friendly and professional service all around. Highly recommend.

My wife played there Thursday as part of a work outing and said it was a nice course, unfortunately she gets invited and plays at nicer tracks than I.

We did play a few in Orlando (Hawks Landing (twice)), Tamicuan, and Grande Pines) over the last week and will give my opinion and provide some pictures once I get them sorted out in the next few days. I will say based on some of your other review of Grand Cypress, that we stayed at The Peabody across the way from Shingle Creek, which is a complete dump compared to the Grand Cypress as far as hotels go. Actually, it was a complete dump compared to the Residence Inn we stayed at during the first part of our trip this week. If they stay there next time down, I would opt to forgo that trip just out of principle and stay in the snow in PA. Although I doubt that will happen. More to follow on this later on the reviews. If only they took as good of care of their guests as they do their ducks.
