    June Golf in Las Vegas

I'm finally getting down to Vegas when I'll have enough time to get in a round of golf. Any locals or area experts have some thoughts on a course I just shouldn't miss? Or that fall within the following:

*I won't pay $500 to golf at Wynn. Beyond that - economy is nice but I am willing to throw out a few dollars for my round.
*I want a fun experience and don't need the most difficult course in the state.
*Cab-distance from the MGM would be better as I don't know that I'll rent a car.

    Thank you fellow addicts!

I've only played Silver Creek in Vegas, but I enjoyed it. I'm not going to say it was an outstanding course, but it was affordable and it was interesting enough that I was never bored playing. Check it out - it might fit what you are after.

As far as bang for the buck, I would have to search long and hard to find courses as nice as Paiute. Actually, I may have to search long and hard just to find one in Vegas I like as well. When I go to Vegas, and for the price it will likely be the only 3 I will play. I believe the Wolf is supposed to be the best, we played Snow Mountain.

Paiute - Golf Club Resort Las Vegas Nevada Pete Dye Design Golf Courses

It has 3 Peter Dye courses, and at around $100 (at the time), and depending on the time and season it is probably a third of the price of some of the nicer courses in Vegas. It is actually one of the top 3 places I have ever played. It is about 45 minutes off the strip, so if you don't have a rental car it may be out of the question. It is also quite a bit cooler and windier than the strip because of lack of surrounding concrete. So you may want to take a windshirt or dress for it to be about 10-20 degrees cooler.

You may also do a search on here for other options, and I believe Eracer and some others played at Paiute as well.

Paiute is a great course. My favorite in Vegas. Pretty tough, but worth it. It would be an expensive cab ride.

Las Vegas National is a nice enough course, and it's downtown.

Arroyo Club at Red Rock is 20 miles from the strip. Nice Arnold Palmer course.

Angel Park - two Palmer courses - about 15 miles. Pretty easy, but I enjoyed it.

There are quite a few courses I haven't played yet (but I will) that I've heard are pretty awesome:

    Cascata
    Rio Secco
    Royal Links
    Mesquite
    Reflection Bay

Thank you for the ideas. I'd rather get a car and get to the right course. I'll just have to save the 19th hole for when I get back to the hotel.

I've played Tuscany out in Henderson, Both Angel Park courses (Arnold Palmer) and Aliante. Also for a short (5400 yards i think) easy course and cheap, check out Los Prados. All really great courses and if you check a week before you plan on golfing on you can find last minute rate discounts up to 30% off for afternoon tee times if you don't mind the heat a little.

I also liked Angel Park. I doubt it matters much to the OP, since his thread was from April, 2008. It would be soooo cool if people who asked for advice on a forum actually came back from their trip and said, "Hey, thanks for the great suggestions!"

Oh well. Maybe they'll help someone...someday.

I noticed the date after I posted too. haha
I just came across it as I'm heading back down end of May and wanted to see what anyone else came up with.

I am fortunate, I borrow my brother's roomates ID and I get the resident fee at all the courses. I've never been questioned. $40 fee sure beats the $120 they are milking out of the tourists.

Oh yeah. I wish I'd practiced my Scottish Brogue and talked some St. Andrews native into loaning me his ID. Would have saved a bunch of money. Do you know that town residents and university students only pay about $150 to play all the city courses (including the Old Course) all year long?!?

Re: June Golf in Las Vegas

Did you guys really need to dig this thread up?

My wife just got back from Vegas and her work payed for their round at Reflection Bay in prime time. I wasn't invited, and will have to going on saying Paiute is one of my favorite courses and best for the price in Vegas, as I am not sure I would ever pay to play Reflection Bay. Thanks guys, way to rub salt in the wounds when they haven't even begun to heal.

I'm going back to being a Golf Ostrich and bury my head in the sand.

Everytime I go down I tell myself if I win a jackpot I'll pay the $240 and play at one of the highend courses. Well, you probably know how the trip usually ends.

Re: June Golf in Las Vegas

Yeah, I think my wifes comment was "I played a really nice course called Reflection Bay", I think after rolling my eyes I said "We could afford to play it on Tiger Woods Golf if you want to relive that memory"

I don't mind spending over $100 on golf when we vacation, but probably the only way I would spend $240 on a round would be for probably Pebble Beach if we are out there, and will likely spend double that, or if I hit a jackpot.
