Just played an incredible public course 60 miles north of NYC. Centennial Golf Club is a 27 hole facility carved out of some of the most beautiful countryside you could imagine in Putnum County N.Y. The course was designed by Larry Nelson and is probably considered his best work yet. The property was originally a horse farm overlooking a variety of lakes, resevoirs and streams. No commercial or residential buildings to be seen from the course. The three nines, the Meadows, Lakes and Fairways, range from 3516 to 3599 yards at the tips. The slope ratings depending on the combination of nines you play range from 136 to 145. These are for real hills. The greens that are in great condition were challenging in everyway: fast, huge to suttle breaks, big slopes and large for the most part. Depending on the time of year, greens fees including cart range from $64 to $100 a round. A bargain based on the quality of the course, staff and facility overall. If you are in the New York City area, Centennial is worth the drive.

Was up there about 2 years ago for my ESPN golf school lesson so I didn't get to play on the course but It was beautiful. Been meaning to get back up there for a round. (about 1 hour for me driving from Queens).

Glad you enjoyed it.

This is a bit of a "Puffy" review. Sounds like you work there. I have played this course many times as I live in Westchester County, NY. In season weekend green fees have climbed to $135. Off-peak you can get around for $65 mid week. Conditions are not as great as stated. The fairways and tees are OK, but the greens take a beating. Pock marks and dried out as the season progresses. Not the super's fault people do not repair their ball marks. I agree, however, the course is scenic and challenging. Staff is eh -- so so. I have played this course many times off peak that I do not feel it is of value to me to pay full boat.

With regard to the conditions, I played in April my man. For April in NY this was in very good condition. By the end of May, it will be terrific by anyone's standard. The service to our group was very good, accomodating and friendly in every way. You might also read another player's review of the course that was recently posted on GolfCommunityReviews.com Objective golf course community reviews.*-*Golf Community Reviews Play a lot of places, and believe that for a public course, open to anyone and everyone, this is a terrific track to play.

You certainly do get around. I'm guessing a dot com genius who retired at 35? Golf, yachting, extensive wine collection?

Blu,
No doubt this is a decent track. It's just that I have so many rounds on it I guess I see the ugly bumps rather than the beauty as a whole. For a daily fee, it is one of the better choices in the area, yet I still believe in value, and as a frequent player here, condition/service/layout could be better. To each his own. Good playing to you!
