Chambers Bay Golf Course

First time playing the course for myself. First off, the cost was well worth the course you get. I paid $75 for twilight rate and teed off exactly at 2pm.

When you arrive, after you check in you are shuttled down via a CBGC bus down to the golf course itself and the practice range. Range probably had 15 stalls, all grass tees. Range balls are free (first course I'd ever seen this at that wasn't private). They also have 2 huge chipping greens, and 2 huge putting greens. The gal driving on the bus on the way down recommended taking a couple extra minutes putting as they were gonna be slow, around a 8 on the stimp meter.

Got warmed up and then met the starter and he walked us down to the first tee. Gave our group some tips and sent us on our way.

Now this course is NOT for the faint of heart. This course is flat out TOUGH! The waste areas can be brutal to the point where you might have to chip backwards just to get out. I got caught only one (thank goodness), but it was BRUTAL! I was 130 out and the only shot I could play was either chip sideways or skull a PW to the green. I chose the latter and put it on You can see in the pics just how big and a pain in the butt the waste areas/sand traps can be. Great views throughout the course.

I played it from the championship tees 7109 yeseterday, can play at 6988 as hole #5 has two greens, one 465 and the other at 344 from my tee box. Tips are not open to the public yet which will play at 7585. Shot 38-38. Happy, but not thrilled. Made a few stupid mistakes that may have prevented better scoring.

If anyone has any questions about the course, please fire away and I'll be glad to answer them.

Here are some pics, sorry my iPhone doesn't take 8MP quality

How cool! I was there last year, just to look around, and you captured it well. Great score, too.

Great looking golf course! And a nice score from 7100 yards. Funny, that sure looks a lot tougher than a 130 slope might suggest.

No such thing as cart girls cause carts aren't allowed

But the girls at the stands were not premium grade as you might expect from this type of course

And yes, lots of people I've talked to said that slope rating should be higher

Once the native grasses fill in the hillsides and the other areas that are still just dirt from the excavation, it will be even more beautiful . . . and more difficult.

It really isn't possible to truly capture the beauty and magnitude of the course with a camera - just too much landscape for a viewfinder. But those pictures are a great "mental reminder" of how amazing the course is.

Definitely on my 'To Golf' list as is every public course in Western Washington. Lots of 400+ yard par 4's though from the White Tees. That's pretty much Up/Down territory at best for me though.

And a lot of those are going to require some good carry's. White tee's are recommended fro 10-15 handicaps according to our starter.

And now they have this weird natural weed, I guess I wanna call it, growing all over the course. Its basically a net. You get your ball in it and your gonna need a serious HACK to get out of it and advance it 20 yards. It is flat out BRUTAL. I threw a ball in it for kicks and tried to get it out...HAHA yeah right.
