Thread: Poppy Hills (Monterey, CA)

  1. Poppy Hills (Monterey, CA)

As one of the three courses used for the AT&T Pro-Am (the old Bing Crosby Clam Bake), Poppy Hills is the cheapest, but the easiest course for the general public to get on.

I try to play here several times a year, as it is only about an hour south of San Jose. The NCGA (Northern California Golf Association) is running a current special for all members: during the week you get green fees, a cart, range balls, breakfast or lunch and a hat for $75. A great deal, considering the weekday walk rate is normally $55. I played here last week, and we were in shirt sleeves on the first tee at 9:20. An absolutely awesome day!!

A tough but fair golf course. Beautiful scenery and should be on all of your lists if you get the chance to get to this part of the world. Granted, we are spoiled in this area, but this is a real gem of a golf course!!

We had a conference in Monterey last year and was supposed to play there with one of our brokers but that game fell through so we ended up playing Del Monte 2x and Spyglass once, beautiful area and courses. I think we need to put together a CA Shottalk outting this year.
