Courses in Miami area

Myself and a girlfriend are going to be in the Miami area next month for about a week. We will be playing at The Doral. Can anyone recommend any other courses in the area? Thanks

well you happen to be in a bit of luck . Alright so your playing at doral you say? Not bad not bad hopefully its not the silver course which is still in a reconstruction process. The question is do you have a car available? If you don't you'll be in a bit of a problem as the nearest playable golf course to Doral is about 3 miles away. Miami Springs GC is not bad short par 71 course than has some beautiful scenery of the old Miami Springs area and virtually no water hazards and no bunkers. Across the street from doral (well about .5 mile) is Costa Del Sol, uhm stay away if your not a straight shooter, and even if your not the quality is not great.

Now Miami is spread into 4 areas for golf. Northern Miami, The Beaches, Doral (Encompasses most of the area for "Golf" I will include Coral Gables, Westchester, and south Miami in this area techincally), and Kendall.

Kendall: Miccosukee golf and country club (Host to Nationwide Tour Miccosukee Championship) Nice golf course that just finished a reseeding of 18 holes. It's basically brand spanking new unless they havent cared about since the tour stop in October which is unlikely. 27 Holes of golf ranging from easy to hard (Marlin, Dolphin, Barracuda). Decent length from the tips but not a beginner friendly golf course.

Calusa Country Club: One of my favorites for the rates we get. Unfortunetly I heard they let the course go to **** and I'm not sure of its current condition at the moment. It would be helpful to call and ask. It's one of the few Par 72's in miami with moderate length. Again almost not water hazard but bunkers lay out the course.

Killian Greens: Just stay away its owned by the same company as Costa Del Sol.

Palmetto GC: Palmetto GC is a tough par 70 golf course that is rather hard for its shortness in length. Challenging but rewarding and usually empty on weekdays. 14 holes lay around water I believe and make it for interesting outing.

Doral: The aformentioned Miami Springs, Costa Del Sol, and of course Doral. Now I'm going to add a few from Coral Gables area.

Melreese GC: Melreese if a rather stingy golf course to out of towners and is host to the local First Tee program (for a good cause IMO, I was part of the program till I graduated last year). Tough par 71 golf course with harzards and bunkers everywhere. Always taken care of and if you really want to it comes with an added perk. There is a water park right outside of the golf course lol !

Granada GC: Quick 9 hole GC that is about 3000 yards in length I believe. Nothing challenging just its set up in the "heart" of the gables.

Biltmore: Fasinating golf course that was just revamped a year or two ago. I love this place got to play it for free when I was in high school due to great connections. I hear its outrageous expensive but if you want to play here and have the $$$$ I recommend it. Par 72 golf course that has just one word to describe it "Lovely".

The Beaches: Miami Beach CC, Links at Key Biscayne, Normandy Shores

Miami Beach CC: Never played but I hear its quite beautiful this time of year if you dodge the arrant shower. Quite pricey IMO.

Links at Key Biscayne: Another pricey one but Oh my do I love this golf course. Par 72 set up if I am not mistaken that takes you basically through the ins and otus of key biscayne. Keep your eye out for the random iguana, croc, or snake . Beautiful course though and if you happen to play the right hole from the right angle you can see the bay.

Normandy Shores: Opened up not too long ago and not too expensive I believe. Never played it sorry I don;t have a review for you.

North Miami: Only two courses I recommend in this area Shula's golf course, and CC of Miami.

CC of Miami: Had the honor of working here before and man I tell you they take care of you. 36 hole golf course set up as East and West. West is for the skilled player who does have length off the tee. East is for the average golfer but you need to be accurate, length on this course isn't an issue. Take advantage of their play all day rates if they are still in effect.

That pretty much wraps up the courses that you would enjoy. Although I realize that all of them won't be possible but these are the lists that if I came to Miami I would choose from. If you have any questions feel free to contact me via PM or replying on the post. If I take a while to answer my apologies I am not as frequent as a visitor as I used to be.

Take care and enjoy Miami it's a lovely place unless you live here =D!

Omar

That's a pretty exhaustive list - thanks so much for making the effort in such a prolific fashion!

Now I have a problem in choosing from so many.

I'll search them individually and post our plan of attack.

Can't wait. Just the thought of some sunshine, playing in shorts and a T shirt without waterproof clothing is something to relish!
