Re: Bandon Dunes

I haven't played there...yet. My brother lives in Oregon and is an avid golfer. He's been to Scotland and Ireland on golf trips. He' pretty much played all over.

When asked about Bandon, his eyes light up. He says it's probably the BEST golf resort in the world. Keep in mind, he's also played and stayed at Pebble. Right now there's three courses open. I believe next year, the fourth course, Old MacDonald opens.

I walked around the clubhouse and the a hole in front ofthe clubhouse. I'll tell you what, it looked more like Scotland than Scotland does. It all looked like links golf with heather all over the place. I wish I could have played.

Keep in mind. These pics aren't even on the coast where a ton of the golf is played.

looks awesome, and really not too far from me.

We are pleased to announce the opening of our fourth course, Old Macdonald in June 2010. The layout is a tribute to Charles Blair Macdonald (1856-1939), the father of American golf course architecture and founder of the U.S. Golf Association. Designed by Tom Doak and Jim Urbina.

Re: Bandon Dunes

I'm trying to decide where to go on a golf vacation for my 50th in 2011. One of the top runners is Bandon. Damn thing is, summer rates are $275. I was also thinking either Myrtle Beach or the Robt T Jones Trail. Tough decision.

Re: Bandon Dunes

I'm not sure this suggestion will help you at all, but if your considering myrtle beach, do a little research on Hilton Head Island as well. Has some awesome golf (you could probably play two or three rounds for 275), but it is a much better place to vacation than myrtle in my opinion. I'm not very well traveled when it comes to golf, but i recently played the robert trent jones ocean course at palmetto dunes, and it was awesome and only 80 bucks. Just a thought, hope it helps.

Re: Bandon Dunes

Don't forget the sandhills region of NC, Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Pine Needles, Mid South.... all within 15 min of each other. A must visit for the avid golfer.
