Driver Swing?

Does anyone else have this problem? I've come to the realization that if I try and give my driver a nice easy swing, the results are erratic at best. But on the other hand, if I really go after it, swing for the fences, I can get pretty predictable and satisfactory results. Does this even make sense? Anyone else experiencing this?

If you have to constantly go after it to control your driver, your shaft may be too stiff for you. If you could find a similar club with a similar shaft in reg. flex to what you have, you might find that it plays well with your easy swing.

Or, I could just be wrong!

Nothing to do with equipment. It's the swing. This is where an more arms controlled, timing based, sometimes "hand save" based swing shows it's true colors. When you try to slow down, you throw your timing off and the clubface will be pointing all over the place. Don't get discouraged, I do it, pros do it. Did you happen to see the Swingvision with Phil Mickelson a few weeks ago? 2nd best player on the planet and he has a massive hand save, to the point he's got about 1 1/2 fingers of one hand on the club at impact. VJ does the same type thing. He might as well be swinging one handed on the downswing with a driver.

Now back to equipment. Get a nice TEE 3W with a great shaft if you want a control shot. Rip the driver when and where you can.

I'm with ya, if I try and sissy it out there bad things happen, but rare back and smack the stuffing out of it and the ball usually flys pretty straight.....it's amazing to me as well. I've been struggling with driver for years trying to finese the thing, some go straight, some draw/hook, some fade/slice. Now my only swing thought is, face angle at set up and Wham...drillin it.

OK, at least I'm not the only one. That makes me feel better anyway.

As far as my shafts being to stiff, my swing speed is 105 cold, I've never had a chance to warm up before getting on a monitor, so I'm pretty sure I don't need a Regular flex shaft.

Ezra; I keep hearing everyone rave about the Tee 3W, is it really that much better? I have a HiBore 3W, and a Maltby KE4 3W with a Solutions 130 stiff. How does the Tee stack up against them?

Same for me. There were a couple wide open holes so I just wanted to see if I could go after it, then see what would be the outcome.

Dead straight. I wasn't going to try it again though. Slowing down just throws me off big time, like Ezra said, timing.

Even Hogan, in 5 lessons, says to hit it hard... and he had the swing so perfectly onplane he could swing as hard or soft as he wanted to. I've heard he could hit balls one after another without ever regripping the club, at all.

As to comparing the TEE to the 3W's you have, I've never hit them. I know it's better for me than any that I've hit. Hitting a 13* off the deck is like hitting a 4wood, except it goes 240. Off the tee, it's as long with my SS as a 97-99 mph. swinger with a 10.5* driver. It's as close to an automatic fairway at 240 as I've ever seen. I'm hitting almost 80% fwy's when I take the cover off it. (I really need to use it tomorrow, lol).

A well hit TEE 3W is a thing of beauty. Unfortunately, it only happens about one out of ten tries for me. I hit the TEE driver much farther and with more control than the TEE 3W.

Slowing down & paying extra attention to my backswing & arm position as well as making sure to **** my wrists...I forget to do that at times...is the ticket for myself. Gripping & ripping just results in ugly slices for me.

I'm the same. If I try and go easy on any shot I end up chunking it or topping it. I feel much more comfortable swinging 95 to 100% with my driver.

I think you WANT to swing as hard as you can while UNDER CONTROL. When the swing gets so hard as being wild and inconsistent you'll lose distance. I can't make a whimpy swing work either.

When I said really go after it, I didn't mean coming out of my shoes, . That's just for after a especially bad hole when I'm mad. But if I don't give it all I've got within reason, I can't seem to do anything but hook it.

It's not a 100% swing unless he has to change his diaper afterwords.

My driver issues are if I try to slowdown too much I get my hands through too fast and fade it. The other is when I am trying to be a gorilla and yank it. But there are many times towards the end of a round and I am a bit tired and I can swing about as hard as I can and not worry about yanking it. Those are good times. Just address the ball and swing hard and get a nice draw.
