Heck of a day

There are some days when you just can't help but love this game

My new driver was on the nuts (side-note -- if you swing in the '90s and you're using less than a 12° driver you may very well be screwing yourself.) I pushed it a couple of times, but even then it was way farther out there than I'm used to. Far enough that I didn't care that it was in the rough. I got it back straight after the first couple of tee shots, including an excellent dead-straight drive on the last hole.

Irons were hellacious. I've been working a lot lately on dragging my left hand ahead of the club head in my practice sessions and it really paid off - I was long on nearly every shot. I didn't care - they were dead on line, but rocked on farther than I'm used to. Not good for scores, but very good for ego.

The only thing that gave me some trouble was FW and hybrid off the deck -- neither wanted to get up in the air. I got good distance out of both, but they barely came up. I think it's probably due to the goodness of the irons, and I can work it out with a little ball position change and a little less wrist supination (I love that word.)

Great, great day. My score was crap, but that doesn't even matter - everything I was there to focus on was jamming. My score bombed because I played at the local public course that apparently doesn't have sprinklers -- if you think the greens looked fast at the Masters this year, you haven't seen anything. These greens might as well have been concrete. Plus every green has a different level of shade and care, so they're all completely different - it doesn't hurt my feelings when I have putting problems at this course because they really are some raggedy greens.

There you have it - I may be a hacker, but every once in a while I have a round that just makes me happy as a clam.

If you can keep the attitude I've bolded above, you'll be a highly successful golfer no matter what you score!

Sounds like a great round!
