Make me swing faster

Over the winter I got a lesson package which might have got me 10 more yards on my drives. I'm really SICK of pucking out 230-260 yard drives when everyone I play with blasts them out (usually straight) up to 100 yards past me. I feel like the biggest wimp on the planet.

I used to hit them out there. I refuse to give in to age.

SO.... if I have to swing like an idiot to make that frickin club head move faster I'm going to. This is really PISSING ME OFF!

I think Doc put something up to this affect also.

Throw out the ideas. Right now I'm open to anything.

wbl, if you're really hitting consistent 230-260 in the fairway, do not ever complain again. That's a great average.

Don't worry about where your drive is, worry about the score.

Jake was hitting 270+ yesterday, none of the rest of us other than Eric were anywhere near that number. 220-230 is typically the furthest the GPS said the rest of us were hitting & I am fine with that.

WBL, just like the rest of us age creeps up & there isn't a damn thing we can do but accept it. It's much better to be 200 yds straight up the middle instead of 250 yds 2 fairways over. Hell, I would love to be able to pound the ball like the young kids do, but I know there is no way it's going to happen due to lower back & neck issues from many many years ago. So I don't even attempt to try, I am happy hitting 3w 200 yds & working on the chipping & putting. Everyone knows thats where the real game is anyways.

That's the key, we aren't pro's & obviously never will be. I think it's better to stop worrying & or attempting to gain an extra 10-20 yds that will probably never happen. Just play the game & enjoy it.

WBL, I don't know what kind of physical shape you are in but I am sure that you can become stronger and more flexible regardless of where you are at now. There are some really good exercise programs out there that are specific to golf and can be adapted to golfers of all ages.

I am almost 46 years old and over the past 5 1/2 months I have gotten myself into better shape than I was when I was 20. This has caused me to be able to hit the ball farther than I was back at the first of the year. Coupled with better techinique, I have hit a few drives to places where I never have over the past few months including a few real (not internet) 300 yarders. I have seriously picked up about 25 yards on average and now average in the 275 range where this had been being my absolute "nutted" best.

Also, you've got to be sure that you are playing the right driver for your swing. I know that you have tried a lot of different drivers but, have you ever been to a reputable club fitter that has a launch monitor and knows what he is doing? I know that you aren't afraid to 'ho a club so how about going and getting the right one for you if you've never tried this route before?

Or buy a racehorse and recycle it's urine for Winstrol-V.

Let me know how it works out. Winstrol-V used to be easy to get. About 3 years ago the DEA made it a Class 2.

I'll take accuracy over distance any day of the week.
I have the distance thing but my accuracy blows big time!

Who cares how far you hit, how quick can you get it in the hole?

I agree with that. I'm no expert, but a 9.5° stiff-flex driver sounds ill-suited to someone that's hitting 230-260 yard drives. I know everyone's different and it may be perfectly suited, but on the surface it doesn't seem like it would be.
