When are you a senior?

I know this is a "that depends" kind of question; but at what point does one move forward to the senior tees. I didn't start playing until I was 66 years old. I started from the white tees; because I normally played with my son in the beginning. I'm 71 now and still at the white tees. Maybe, it's because I have only played 5 years; but I just don't feel like it it's time to admit to "senior status" yet. I initially set a goal to break 100 from the whites and then go to the seniors tee box. That time has come and gone. My new goal is to break 90 from the whites. Perhaps, I will consider moving up to the forward tees then...or, perhaps not.

I started thinking about this question yesterday when my playing partner casually remarked that I would be shooting mid-eighties if I were shooting from the closer tees. Somehow, I just don't think I would get the same satisfaction from that as I will when I break 90 from the whites.

I play pretty quickly, so I am never holding up the pace of play. If that ever happens, I will reevaluate my choices.

I have discovered one good thing about starting the game late in life. I'm still getting better with age; while the other guys my age are complaining about their game going downhill as the years pass. Guess it all depends upon one's perspective.

Wow, twogreen, you're even more of a late starter than I am.

I'm 56 now, and started golfing 3 years ago. I started on the white tees, and now I alternate between the white and blue tees, depending on the length of the course.
I generally try to play 6200-6600 yards. Anythig more than that and I can't get home in 2 on some of the par 4s.

IMHO, anyone over the age of 60 who has trouble hitting a modern driver more than 220 yards, or a 5 iron more than 150 yards, should consider playing from the senior tees.

But play which ever tees you want. Like you, I'm still trying to get better and hit it longer. It still pisses me off that the 20 and 30 somethings bomb it past me.

King Par is an unknown quantity at this point
I'd say it isn't about age, as much as it is length and skill. If you can shoot low 90's from the white tees, I'd say you're teeing off from the right tee boxes.

I salute you twogreen! It sounds like you SHOULD be playing from the whites.

twogreen, play the seniors tees a few times and see how your scores go. If they improve, start playing your partners for more money!

Seriously, I think it's more about where you want to play, especially if pace of play isn't an issue. As long as you're happy with what club you're hitting into the green on mid to long par 4's, why change?

Oh for God's sake!

You sir, are a man. You will therefore go to your grave NEVER having played from "senior" tees.

That is all.
