Swing starting to work

Lately I've been hitting the ball pretty well but have been stuck on singles & doubles with the occasional triple or par setting in. I'm convinced that I can play better golf than that.

My kids gave me a lesson package for Fathers day and the pro had me flatten my swing, move the ball forward, and do a couple of other things to help with weight shift and coil.

The first couple rounds trying the changes were strange feeling and wildly inconsistant, but I'm soldiering through. I went out yesterday and F'd the front nine with a 53, but things jelled on 10, and I came in with 38. That's my best nine ever and the lowest round since I tore up my ankle, knee and elbow.

Now I've gotta rinse 'n repeat.

Congrats, wirehair.

So those lesson things really do work? I thought I could solve all of my problems by buying more clubs.

To tell you the truth, I really think that the Adams driver and AP1's are a big help. But more than clubs & lessons the ability to swing without thinking "this is gonna hurt" is where it's at.

That is eerily familiar. Yesterday, I shot a 52/39, and really felt some good swings for a change, instead of the "now what did he say about my right knee" swings.

Eracer, did you take lessons at Golf Tec? I though I remember reading about it somewhere in here in the last several months. If so, would you recommend them?

Yes, I have one left from a 15 lesson pack, and will probably get more lessons when they have a sale in August.

The GolfTec philosophy is that the pros have a certain range of angles at address, the top, impact, and follow-through. They help you achieve those same angles, while focusing on overall swing performance. They do analyze body positions, a la Jim McLean, but it's more about angles than positions.

Pros -

Excellent teacher. Very quick to analyze mistakes and recommend good drills.

Video feedback. You are fitted with a motion analyzer that measures hip and shoulder angles through the swing, and gives you very easy to read numbers in the video replay. The video also provides instantaneous (excellent) slo-mo. You can go frame by frame immediately after striking the ball, and see everything very clearly.

They also offer playing lessons and short game lessons.

Cons -

It is somewhat expensive. My 15 lesson plan averaged out to $45 per half-hour. If you get the 5 lesson plan I think it's $95 per half-hour

You hit balls into a net (which I hate.) I wish they had booths at a range, so I could get ball flight feedback.

They believe in the "one swing fits all" model. Which I'm not too sure about. However, as the pro explained, "All good players achieve basically the same angles throughout the swing. There are proven ways to achieve those angles - ways that anyone can learn."

I've seen my swing improve a lot since I started taking the lessons, although I still have the same miss (pull) I've always had. I have been able to hit some nice draws lately, which have NEVER been part of my repertoire in the past. I need to get back to doing the drills at night.

Ouch! That makes lessons at the local course seem like a bargain. $95 per half hour?

I have thought about Golf Tec for the sole fact that I could do it in any weather (being inside) and the video feedback and lesson reviews via the web. I am not so sure that I can match the pro's angles with my body, though. If you have heard the expression "swing in a barrel" I am more of a "swing around the barrel" approach out of necessity.

I am glad they are working out for you. Do you have any idea what the "sale" price is going to be?

Way to rebound on the back!

Hopefully these awkward changes will start to feel natural soon enough and you'll see more 38s than 53s.

Eracer/ualtim - let's continue to the Gofteck discussion here http://www.shottalk.com/forum/hacker...s-general.html.
