What is the craziest scenario you have ever practiced?

I was out in the back earlier and me and my friend took one look at my swimming pool and said "Oh, what the hell!" We threw in some range balls and had us a little hazard practice session. Was not to pleasant but it gave me an idea on how to play the shot if its an extreme emergency.

So it got me thinking have you guys ever done something that crazy?

Once in a while I'll practice a left handed chip or pitch with a right handed wedge (I'm right handed). Once or twice a year I'll actually have to hit this shot in a round and I usually can pull it off.

I've had a session where I tried to hit the Mickelson backwards over the head shot. All I could manage was straight in the air.

I quite often get strange looks down at the range when I'm practicing my hybrid punch shots. I think it's mainly because they can't understand why I'm looking so pleased with myself for hitting 150 yard shots that barely reach head height while standing in such an ungainly stance...

I practice a 30yd. fade with my driver off the deck. I actually tried this shot on the course this evening. Stuck under a tree, had like 160 to the green and more tree branches in the way up ahead. I made a nice strike but it flew right into a little pine tree 60yds. up on the left. In hindsight... I'd try it again.

Craziest thing I ever practiced was hitting my second shot from the middle of the fairway I mean, how often does THAT happen?

I do practice my 'under the branches' shot with my hybrid. I use that shot a lot and am actually pretty good at it... for me anyway!

That's funny, my last round I had a shot exactly like that. I was about 150 from the green and had pushed my tee shot maybe 5 or so yards off the fairway behind some trees. I had a hole about 6 ft. in diameter underneath them to go forward towards the green or I was going to have to go sideways just to get back in the fairway. I took out my 16° hybrid, played it back in my stance and hit a beautiful punch fade just short of the green and rolled it on. The shot never got more than about 10 ft. in the air and made it under the branches with about a foot to spare.

The guys I was playing with looked at me in disbelief and said "WTF? How did you do that???". I love when you pull off shots like that and the rest of your partners can hardly believe it.

Greydawg can sympathize with that - he stood and witnessed me do the same thing on about the 3rd or 4th hole we played together the other week! I even surprised myself when it landed up on the green, but all that practice down the range really helped with this one...

What a great idea!

I can hit a towering lob wedge over a tree to a pin 50 yards away. I can hit a left-handed wedge shot. I can hit a 160-yard 6-iron from a fairway bunker. I can hit a big 5-iron fade out of pine straw, around a tree. Hir a ball to the green out of the middle of the fairway? HAH!

Low low shots with massive sidespin for tree-scenarios.

People probably think I'm hitting terribly at the range, I just laugh inside.

My brother and I used to dick around with the backwards shot, he actually got pretty good at it. I was happy if it didn't go forward.
