Good to be back!!!

Spent the last 10 days in KS on vacation. All the places we stayed had either dial up or rather slow Internet connections, so I decided waiting 20 minutes for a page to load would just be too frustrating. Did manage to play a bit of golf. My wife had a class reunion that had an outing. My wife and I took second in the couples with a one over par on a two person scramble. Not bad for a 19 and 28 handicap, where we did not use handicaps and played straight up. I was putting out of my mind. kept missing 5-6 six footers to the right, but out of the four rounds we played I only remember missing 1-2 putts from 6-15 feet. Also hit a 4i to within 3 inches on a uphill 180 yard par 3.

Played Colbert Hills in Manhattan, KS. Ranked as one on the 50 hardest courses in the USA from the tips with a slope of around 152, although from my tees it was only 132 slope and shot my best round of the year with a 88. Not bad for the first time on the course. I would say it is one of the top 3 courses I have ever played and would recommend it to anyone. Really windy, as KS usually is most of the time.

Thought about giving you a call Limpalong, but we played with my wifes Uncle and his friend to round out a foursome. Man, you have it nice having a course like that so close by. Also played Herington a couple times and Alvamar. Put about 1600 miles on the rental car after flying into KC. Got back last night at 4:15, after getting up at 4:30, and played in our Men's league (9 holes) at 5. Started out lousy losing the first two, but won by one in extra holes of match play.

Sounds like a fun golf marathon. A course with a slope of 152 has to be brutal. Does it have a lot of water?

Not really alot of water, just a very tough layout. Kinda made me feel at home and likely the reason I played so well from the shorter tees.

I have to wonder how much the Kansas winds play into the slope ratings. We likely had lighter winds from what I have seen in the state. I can see how it would be absolutely brutal from the tips while aided with 30-40 mph winds which may not be too uncommon on many days. It was likely only about 15-20 mph when we played the course.

Good shooting, Jayhawk. 132 slope is nothing to sneeze at.

I was happy. It played about 3 points lower than our home course, which is 135 off the whites. I felt right at home with the layout of the course and extremely happy the first time out. I kinda expected it to play like my home course from what I have heard so that helped, and am still yet to shoot in the 80's on our home course this year.
