Little Confidence Booster

The course I normally play was closed today and tommorow for a tournament. I went out to a track I haven't played since last year. It's 119/69.2/par 70 off the blues and 6100yds. So, yeah, a pretty easy course.

Starting out my driver was a little off but my irons were red hot. I hit 5iron/PW into the 291 yd. dogleg left 2nd hole and converted the birdie. From 189 on the par 3 4th I put a 6iron all over the stick and missed a fricken 6footer. To add insult to injury the ball was hanging on the lip, I even gave it 10seconds but no droppy.

Anyway, I shot 40-41 and probably should have gone at least a few lower than that. My best score archived for this course is an 86 from last season. So apparently, despite my negative beliefs, I am getting better.

The biggest thing I noticed is how I was able to reliably work the ball without a 2nd thought. Also, hitting my yardages is getting a lot better. I suppose that's usually the case when you can count on puring 9/10 iron shots instead of about 5 or 6 like I used to. Short game is also better, from 100 and in I put it on and usually close.... 28 putts today on these greens.

Now time for a little rant...

No offense to anyone on here, don't take this personally but... there is a big difference between playing a tough track with mostly sub 15 cap guys and playing a track like this. I was interrupted by some pretty rude behavior. A 2some in front of me apparently had said something about me "hitting into" them. My drive was a good 15-20yds. short of them and 20+ yds. left. Then a guy is showing another guy how to chip while I'm waiting to hit.... and 2 holes later he comes back and starts chipping on the hole they just finished as I'm hitting my chip. I scored a double on that hole and got a bit irked. So I suppose it's to be expected but it will be nice to get back playing where the group in front isn't chunking every other shot 10ft., looking for balls all over the course and acting plain ignorant on top of it.

Nice shooting.

I blame the marshalls on the chumps in front of you. If marshalls did their freaking jobs once in a while, this shit wouldn't happen on such a regular basis.

You should have mentioned it to the clubhouse. Regulars or not, there's a time and a place to learn the game, and it's not on the course during a busy part of the day. And, I firmly beleive that it's more important to know golf etiquette than it is to be a good player. Learn the finer parts of this game before embarrassing yourself twofold. I don't care if you're shooting 120, but do it with class and consideration for others. And, vice versa for the better players - have some understanding that people of all abilities play this game. But if more of the former played with a sense for others, the latter wouldn't have to b&tch and moan like this.

Yeah, I hear you there Rock. I don't complain much about slow play that's just a result of a ton of friggen strokes , I go to a course like this fully expecting it. This is where higher handicaps and lesser skilled player should be playing, it's "their" course that "I" am on IMO.

I guess I play reasonably fast. My dad basically taught me most of the etiquette stuff and he hates waiting. His preputt routine is basically blowing a fart and then hitting the ball. lol.

Nice round EZ... these courses are great to practice the short game on. I'm really focusing on it this year.

Thanks VT. Actually this course sort of sucks to practice short game. The course I regularly play is the good one for that. Donald Ross greens, miss by 5ft and it's no GIR for you.

This course I played today has a bunch of par 4's between 355-400. So a lot of driver and 8-GW. I got excited thinking they made changes when I walked up #1. They cut down some brush and bumped the bluebox back to 406. That was the only one they lenghtened though. I parred it with driver-7iron.

I had some sort of powerfade going today. 260-270 all day long with a 2-3 yd. fade, ripping them.

I still can't figure out how they've gotten this combination of slow on putts but so friggen hard to hold greens.

Don't take this personally, but if somebody hits their drives 15-20 yards behind me I'm going be a bit pissed.

For what it's worth, I play at a track that's about the same rating and slope, although it plays around 6400 yards, and have never experienced anything like that. I've also played plenty of "tough tracks" with plenty of a-holes out there. Sounds like you just had some jerks in front of you.

I doubt it's the type of course, but as mentioned above it's the course management, marshalls, etc.

and please don't take offense, but you didn't really tear that "easy track" up but shooting +11, actually +12 based on the rating and slope. I'm a 15 handicapper and shoot scores like that sometimes on those courses.

I hear you Ez. I was playing last saturday and the group behind us kept hitting up on us (3 times total).

And after every hole that it occurred, they would roll up and say, "sorry, didn't see you guys", or "wow, didn't think I could reach", or "wow, didn't think I hit it that well". same old same old.

My rule of thumb is if I think there is even the slightest chance of me hitting the ball near them, I will wait.

i had a group in behind me and my group was on the fairway waiting for people to get off the green and one of the guy behind me decides to go. the ball lands 10 ft behind him. my friend yells back to wait. few min later another ball lands even closer to my friend, and i was really pissed. granted it was about 30yds behind me i took an offense to it and told the marshall. nothing happened. the group behind us kept pressing on us even though the course was full. i was so pissed rest of the day and shot 15 over on last 9 (ball mishap happened on 10th hole). the marshalls should've kicked them out.
