Can't hit off the fairway

I think I've spent too much time in the rough this year. I have no problem hitting irons out of the 1st or intermediate rough at all. I get into the dead center of the fairway and I'm hitting everything fat. I had a chance to salvage a sub 90 today and piped 2 drives dead center on the last 2 holes. I was into a 1 club wind and chunked a 6iron from 165 and then a 9iron from 130. That one drove me nuts since it was only a little 3/4 swing. How can I hit that shot 1billion times in a row at the range and flat out stick the clubhead 6inches deep behind the ball?

I know what I need to do, just a rant session here. Man I hate blowing a good drive like a total hack.

Fat shots are almost always the result of reverse pivot.

Probably. I'm setting up too close to the ball, casting and then can't get back in time. I drove the heel of the club into the ground both times. It's tough as I'm really trying to get that swing going that the old guy "Joe Rags" was showing me. When it's on I'm all over pins from 200 and in. When it's off I have a hard time even striking the ball. I can go back to the old move and hit delofted 150yd. PW's all day but that won't ever get me hitting consistant distances or accurate shots.

I probably have both as well. Once I get stuck I have to slow down in an effort to get back... then I'm F'ed. I have a new swing thought you guys will like. I'm trying to use my lower body and stay connected up top. Swing with my **** is my new thought. lol.

Lol. NO. When I'm slotting it I pure every shot and dead accurate. Ball goes just as far too. I just have to get my iron swing to more match my wedge swing, let the club do the work. Good sign is I'm making a lot more birdies. Not a bunch in one round but I've consistantly been making one per round and chances much more often. My goal is to avg. 2 per round by the end of the year. I'm also putting up the 3 on the 3's. That's a start.

You sort of have the idea Ez, albeit a perverse twist. When I swing with my lower body from the top and let my arms come naturally through the swing, I shoot about +4 on 9 holes. Shot +6 the other day on 9, +4 just on the first hole! So with the proper swing, I was +2 through 8.

The ONLY time I have swing issues now is when I try to rush my downswing, or I don't complete the one piece take-away. I think you're hitting your shots fat because you're pulling your left shoulder forward and up to bring the club through, which drops your right shoulder, screws up your swing, and enfuriates the ant colony 4 feet below the turf.

Just a hunch.

"Swing easy." I love that one. And, of all the trite golf sayings, it seems to work the best for me.

I have been trying something latly and reall has help my accuarcy with my irons. Instead of starting my downswing with everything I have I take it back and then bring is down until my hands are a little above my waist and then I go full speed. I tend to hit the ball straighter now but it did take a little bit of distence off.

I left one 8 inches short for birdie.
