Lower Ballflight

Hey, im having trouble with my irons lately, especially my longer ones and keeping them low and boaring. Im getting them up too high and the wind is just killing my long irons, which i am not used to at all.

In IDEAL conditions and a ideal swing, how do you get the ball to come back down and stay boaring? Ive tried keeping my hands ahead of the ball and i keep blocking everything, same thing when i tried keeping my body ahead of the ball, I just cant close the face enough to keep it down...

Any ideas? I'd like to hear from everyone!

I guess you compress the ball given your hcap so I suppose you are a high-ball hitter.
The following may help to stop the "ballooning" of your irons into the wind or to keep them down in a crosswind:-

1 - Take one club more (even after acounting for wind).
2 - Grip 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch down the shaft.
3 - Ball in middle/just in front of stance(for long irons).
4 - 3/4 swing to dial down the spin you impart on the ball.

Hopefully the ball will not go too ballistic with this setup.

If i'm looking for a more penetrating ball flight a little thing I like to do is rotate my front foot so its at a 45* angle between a normal stance and the pin. This encourages my hips to really come around and a more body-rotated flatter swing with the general result being more of a sweep off the fairway than hitting down on the back of the ball. If everything goes to plan a ball that stays fairly low and draws about 10 yards through the air is the result.

Only downside of this is because the ball is swept instead of hit down on there is not as much backspin so holding a green is tougher.

Maybe something to try anyway....

Shorter and lower follow through helps me keep the ball down. I try and keep the emblem on the back of my glove facing the target for as long as possible, this also helps to keep the follow through low. I will always take at least one club more than the shot calls for when executing this shot, and I swing a little easier to help keep some spin off the ball so that it doesn't rise as much.

Though it may not help a whole lot, think about pulling through with your left hand, like it is leading the swing.
