Who uses the forward press?

Too start the backswing, or should I say what do you do to start the backswing? And what signal do you use to start the downswing?

I just take the club back to start the back swing, although with irons my hands start ahead if the ball. My downswing starts when I get to the top of my back swing (not sure what you are looking for here).

I think he means "what trigger mechanism/thought" do you use to start your backswing?

Me, I start my backswing with a push from the left hand. Well, it's not really a push but I think of it that way. It gets me to take the club away with my hands in one piece and not start to **** my wrists on the backswing too soon.

I thought he might be wondering if flashing lights or the Indiana Jones theme played and then you knew to start the downswing.

LOL..I wish it were that easy. Last year I noticed that I would press my hands forward before I started the BS, but this year I stopped that motion unconciously. Also last year I would push my right knee toward the to trigger the downswing, the knee bit from Hogan. I was watching Wonderful world of golf and Snead and his opponent both started their swings with a forward press of the knee.
I have read that if you can stay moving you can promote a smoother swing.?.? Maybe someone should take my clubs away.

One million and one swing thoughts like the Doc. once wrote.

Or a big flashing neon sign like at a crosswalk that says "HIT NOW".

I also use the forward press for putting and chipping.

For my full swing I'm trying to get the slow, one piece takeaway. My trigger is what I say under my breath. "inside, inside" Seems to be working for the most part. Swing is getting a lot smoother.

i use my torso shoulder and arms in unison to initiate, and then the torso gets maxed out, then the shoulder and finally the arm. if all is good, i can really feel the coil in my body (or some call it the "X" factor).

I use a forward press for every swing, except putting, a la Sam Snead. My forward press is a very slight movement of my hips to the left.

I could have done that, but then there would have no reason to tease me.
