I sent in my application

for the Georgia Senior Championship. I probably won't get accepted, but what the heck. They don't charge my card unless I get into the field.

Field will be announced August 8. Tournement to be held August 22, 23, 24 at The Ford Plantation, Richmond Hill, Georgia.

And today marks 1 week since I had a cigarette.

Congratulations on the smoking, man. It's nice to see people making intelligent decisions about their health.

Is the girlfriend holding up her end of the bargain?

Way to go, Doc! Good move on both pieces of news.

Just think, when you win the whole thing we can say we knew you when you were shooting consecutive 106's

Give'em hell, Doc.

Just curious. When I quit smoking last August my scores shot up because when I made a bad shot I couldn't light up and forget about it and it would keep building (bad shot after bad shot) until I was furious at the end of the round. Then all got better a month later.

To answer your questions, in no particular order:

Girlfriend paying up: no, at least not yet.

Handicap requirments: I wrote them an email, and they never answered. Website says 144 lowest handicaps who enter, so I probably have no chance. I'll be OK with that, this year.

Stress: I'm chewing the heck out of some Nicorette gum. Started out at 8 pieces of 2mg gum per day. Now I'm down to 5. Sunday I played golf with a guy who was smoking cigs and I almost bummed one off of him, but I knew that was a slippery slope, so I kept to the gum. He was playing worse than I was, anyway.

I'm also dieting again, as I don't want to gain any weight and I could stand to lose 10 pounds.

Good luck on the tourney.

Great news about the quitting. I am so happy I did. I know it sometimes feels like you won't make it.

Stay strong - the urges will pass, especially with the help of the gum.

Once you're really over them you WILL wonder why you ever smoked. And that, my friend, is a GREAT feeling.

Don't encourage me. I played 9 holes this afternoon, walking, by myself, and I wanted a ciggy really badly. It was boredom more than anything, walking between shots, because that's when I used to fire one up.

Thank goodness there are no cigarette machines out on the fairways.

I quit smoking 13 months ago, and I haven't looked back. I didn't do the gum for very long (tried it exactly twice...couldn't stand the taste). Instead, I went with tic-tacs (mostly because I used to smoke menthols), and would just pop a couple whenever I just had a craving.

Keep it up!

Fitz

P.S. And yeah, good luck getting into the tourney!

Ex-smoker..6yrs..2 packs a day..got the gum and the patches set a stop date for a program work offered and the day I picked up the patches I quit w/o using any of it. I told myself, if going to quit I might as well
quit now....I still love the smell of a cig...
The hardest times were 3 dys 3 wks and 3 months after that it got easier
And Doc the key word is boredom and the nicotine.
I did promise myself that if I ever did quit I'd never start again.

Ah, congrats. Im in the same boat, i swore it off after my mom had open heart surgery, but had a few relapses. Im on Chantix now, while i still smoke once a day, not cause i need it, but i want it. And that in itself is such a huge change. You really do not want to smoke, you get no satisfaction. Even sometimes you get straight up sick if you smoke, its like russian roulette. All in all, I feel better. I stopped smoking while driving and playing golf, and im playing the best golf of the year. If i make a bad shot, instead of lighting up, i take in a deep breath and look at nature. Best of luck mate, if you fail, dont give up. Go see a doc about these pills, $100 a month, so its not bad.

Grats on the smoking man. Tell your girlfriend to uh...do something discrete () whenever you are feeling the urge to get rid of it.

Hopefully you'll get accepted into the tournament.
