Budget Training Aids

I was down at my dad's house yesterday afternoon and found some rebar out in the pool shed. I took a piece that is 45" long and used a whole roll of electrical tape on it (my tape, not his ... a sure sign of maturity). I used about 7 or 8 wraps around the top 1/3 of it for a gripping area.

Anyway, this seems to be a pretty good deal for a swing training aid. I put it in my bag and took it to the range. My driver feels like nothing in my hands after swinging the rebar a dozen times.

I weighed it when I got home just now. It's about 3 1/4 lbs., measuring right around 1100 grams. Hopefully I can get my backswing shortened using this thing. It's helping a lot to get the driver in the slot so far.

Anyone else have a budget training aid they've put together?

A regular house broom will work wonders for your swing. The resistance of it will help quiet overactive hands and help you swing more with your body. Just make nice smooth hip high swings with it and try to get the "swoosh" to happen late in the swing.

Ever tie a beach towel to the end of a driver and swing it?.

Gets you loose pretty darn fast, if nothing else.

Mine is similar (but, higher tech) than yours, ezra. I purchased a smooth steel rod at Home Depot and actually installed an old grip on it. When I do remember to use it; I notice the same tactile sensations that you mentioned. Sadly, it often stands in a corner of my garage encased in cobwebs.

I might try to find something to build another one. A shorter version for in the house.

My left shoulder was huting last night and I was a little worried I'd done some sort of damage. Felt better this morning and I went out and had the best full swing round ever. I think I'll be using this thing a lot more.
