Pretty large emphasis on the arms, eh?

If you can get that turn under control with some late wrist lag nobody on the Eastern Seaboard will out drive you. Try looking at some footage of Karie Webb (LPGA) for an exaggerated example of going wide. BTW that 8 iron looks good. Shorter crisp swing. Maybe also look at Freddy Couples.

If your into golf books Hank Haney's "The Only Golf Lesson You'll Ever Need" has a good view on building a golf swing around your natural swing.

Good luck

I looked at your last post again about no stopping point. If you can get your weight shift back into the right hip that right hammy got to stretch. Jeff has made a very astute comment.

I looked at your last post again about no stopping point. If you can get your weight shift back into the right backside of the right hip that right hammy got to stretch. When you can feel a coil with torso you've got it. Jeff has made a very astute comment.

Lol. Thanks. I've broken down the best 8iron swing along with the driver swing. With the driver the big difference is that I "tilt" forward and let the left arm breakdown. The 8 is by no means perfect but the breakdown is minimal and the tilt is just barely there. I need to work with my swingyde on the driver I think. That helps to hold the lag also. I've been gaining some distance with the short irons and wedges that I've noticed. I hit my SW flag high to a back pin from 102 and have been flying it over 100 pretty consistantly. I've got to refigure my distances now as that was my GW before.

When you make the wide back swing let the club pull your weight back. Then forward past the ball let the club pull your weight through and viola' no reverse C. It's amazing how much golf is about balance and keeping the center of your body in tune with your arms and shoulders.

OK. That's a good swing thought. I used to pretend the club weighed like 50lbs. on the backswing, that helped control it a little better for a round or 2.

Hey Ezra I have the same issue as well. I go past parallel on everything unless I'm hitting a knock down shot. Here's some vids. Is this the same issue you're having? I wish I could stop it, but when I try it screws up my contact.

Yeah, same here. It's tough to work on because I hit horrible shots when I don't go back. During my lesson I was toeing and $hanking drivers all over the place. I told the instructor, "It's just so hard to keep doing this when I know I can just do "this" ". I took a big old PP swing and hit a 2 yd. fade 275yds. I don't think he liked that but I was trying to make a point really. It's not something I can change in one lesson or one year. It's got to be gradual. I'm not going to change to something that's producing poor contact and 240 on a good one when I can just practice my timing on the ugly looking one that goes 280. How many yards would I gain with a shorter swing? Not too many I'd venture to guess. I think I've played with one guy who could hands down outdrive me and he was 3inches taller and 75-80lbs. heavier. 2fast may get me a lot but when it comes right down to it, I can hang with him when I ramp it up and clear fast and hard. I just use the cut drive because it's the most consistant. I lose a few yards with it though.

Yo Ezra,
Check out the new Golf Magazine (November) page 103 article starts. That's what I'm talking about.

I just got that issue and checked it out. It sort of explains what to do if you "fail" the tests but I pass all of them flexibility wise. Hips are more than what they show and shoulders are slightly less but still in the pass range. Glute test, forget it, I'm 140 something lbs. and a professional mover. I could hold that postion for an hour.... well maybe a little exaggeration but I had to recheck to make sure I was doing it correct, I was, no problems.

So not sure where to go with that. The article is basically a whole set of things to do if you can't pass the tests, so what if you can? I did find the "weight in right pocket" to be helpful. I've been looking at my swing a lot on the analyzer and going to Boo Weekley's on Swingvision. I move my head a lot more and don't extend my arms while turning with my shoulders. I am using arms mostly and that's what I feel. I'm going to work on the extension and on the hip bump and getting more "narrow" and inside on the downswing.

well it's not really how long you can drive, it the matter of precision. swing whatever ways you want as long as you can consistantly produce same result over and over, who cares you pipe down +300yds once every blue moon?

i try to work on consistancy more than power. look at the mechanics of swings and see what works.

right now i'm working on extending my arms w/ one peice take away. at the top of my swing, i trigger my down swing w/ my body. the O-factor. also, everywhere i go, i practice, w/o the clubs of course... at work, when i have few moments to kill, i go up to a mirror and swing w/o a club. good thing not many people are working second shifts, otherwise people think i'm wacked.. haha. my golf buddy at work actually caught me swinging w/ peice of tubing in the lab, shaking his head... oops..

I passed all those tests too so I'm not sure who can't. I am as flexible as 2x4.

A thought I use is the chest delivers arms back and forward. Also notice in that article that if your swing plane is steep going farther back is easier. Page 106 lower right corner vs position above that photo. That "don't force it" photo reminds me of the swing you posted swing driver on stalls with mats before lessons. The picture on 107 is where you want to be. Notice how it seems the butt of the club has seemed to pull the left arm wide and around the arc. The right shoulder also is turned WIDE and back thereby loading that hip.

I'm giving you a lot to deal with so choose wisely.

A way to check your steepness of arc is to be aware of your spine angle addressing the ball. As you go back the angle of the shaft of club to your spine should be the same. Once you get to hip level going back lift the club with your torso movement holding that spine angle and keeping arms at a constant distance from chest. It will feel robot like but will smooth out as muscle memory sets in. Now deliver the club with same spine angle holding it as long as possible. Look at backswing pro vs am on page 25.

hope this helps. Again this is the very issue I had to work out this spring. Did it with a gap wedge in my back yard with many balls hit. Went from 82 to 75 when the EURIKA moment finally occurred. What I was looking for was a bullet proof swing. Something simple I could return to when gremlins upset my apple cart.

I checked on pg. 25 and I'll compare those angles to my own. That swingacademy is awsome. I can get all my angles on everthing. The photo on 107 is good for that guy but I have a more upright swing, that's way too flat for me.

I used the 8iron swing and that's looking pretty good #'s wise. I have 24* spine angle away from the target at the top and it matches up exactly at my finish. I also have an 18* shaft angle at impact, now that's a strike.

I have to get some more video this weekend. I need more side views with the driver.
