OK... Story from the Nationwide tour.

I'm putting this in hacker's anonymous because of what I felt like doing to this dude yesterday (Sunday) morning at the Chattanooga Classic.

My son and I volunteered at the Nationawide event yesterday. We were positioned just off of the 11th tee, a downhill par 3 that the pros were just tearing up. Every pro that came off, my son (age 8 as many of you well know) would speak to, compliment their shot, their putt, and/or generally wish them luck on the rest of their round. Many pros were super cool with him and loved it, some ignored him which was totally cool; I was just very impressed with Devin and proud of him.

Around noon a guy about my age and his 2 sons(?) showed up to relieve us since our "shift" was over, but we had to wait for the twosome on the green to putt out so that we could log their potential birdies on the charity sign we were tending.

One of the pros had birdied, so my son smiled at him, gave him a huge thumbs up and told him what a great hole he played, how fun it is to watch, thanks for the show, you get the picture. The pro loved it, smiled really big at Devin and held his golf ball out for Dev.

As Devin reached out to get it, Mr. Prick edges in, brushed Devin aside, grabs the golf ball while thanking the pro, and tosses the ball to one of his kids about 10 feet away.

The pro's jaw drops. I'm stunned. Devin just turned and watched the next twosome tee off. I wanted so much to just pound this guy. I mean, seriously! Was I overreacting or was that just way out of line? As I opened my mouth to lay into this dude, I envisioned him smarting off, me kicking his ass, getting arrested in front of my kid, the whole world seeing me stomping some guy on the golf channel. Wife picks up my son, and them MAYBE bails me out...

We walked off and I apologized to Devin that the guy had acted like that. Devin said, "Yah, Dad. That was weird, but I figured I already had 2 balls from the pros, and if it was important enough for him to be mean for it... You know, I just let him have it."

I was and am very proud of my kid.

I did and do want to kick that creep's ass.

It seems to me that both dads taught their kids a lesson about themselves and how to act in public.

Your kid is lucky for the lesson he received. Good job on not kicking his ass, that had to be tough.

Thanks guys. Farq, that's pretty much what I was gonna say. But, seriously, if he had shot back it might have gotten ugly. I'm pretty layed back until my kids, wife or dog are involved (somewhat in that order). I was afraid if he shot something back I might just go off, so I just looked at him like he was doggie doo on the course as I walked off with Devin.

Nice story. It got the Irish up in me just reading it. Shit like that just tears me up and, like you say, it would have gotten ugly. You made the right decision to let it go. Although, you probably would have made ESPN.

Of course, I highly doubt they'd let you volunteer there anymore.

Well, not in front of your son. Then, 10 years from now when he's in his 20's, take him fishing and tell him what you did and enjoy a good laugh over a beer.

Russell Crowe Charged for Throwing Phone

NEW YORK - Russell Crowe was arrested and charged Monday for allegedly throwing a telephone at an employee of the Manhattan hotel where he was staying.

Crowe, 41, who plays a boxer in his latest film, "Cinderella Man," allegedly threw the phone at the concierge at the Mercer Hotel in SoHo, "hitting him in the face and causing a laceration and substantial pain," according to the complaint.

The Australian movie star was arraigned on charges of second-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon — the telephone — before Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Martin Murphy. The assault charge is punishable by seven years in prison.

"This arose because he was trying to get his wife on the phone in Australia," his lawyer, Gerald Lefcourt, told reporters earlier outside the police precinct where Crowe was booked. "He was in his room. He couldn't get a line and there was a disagreement."

Police said Crowe left his room and went to the front desk where the alleged confrontation took place.

The prosecution told the judge that Crowe admitted to a police officer that he picked up the phone and threw it because he was angry.
Assistant District Attorney Chad Sjoquist asked the judge to set $5,000 bail, but Murphy released Crowe on his own recognizance and told him to return to court Sept. 14.

After Crowe was processed at the police precinct, he was led out in handcuffs to a police sport utility vehicle for the ride to criminal court. A horde of media, including a news helicopter hovering overhead, descended on him. Crowe, wearing dark shades, a blue bomber-style jacket and jeans, declined comment.

Crowe's publicist, Robin Baum, told syndicated TV show "Extra" that "after asking the front desk several times to replace a faulty phone in his room — and getting only attitude from the clerk on duty — Crowe brought the phone down to the front desk in an effort to address the situation in person.
"Words were exchanged and Crowe wound up throwing the phone against the wall. He regrets that he lost his temper, but at no time did he assault anyone or touch any hotel employee."

It wasn't the first instance of reported bad behavior by Crowe. The actor got into a brawl at a chic London restaurant in November 2002. Earlier that year, he reportedly was abusive toward a TV executive when the British Broadcasting Corp. edited his acceptance speech out of a broadcast of the British Academy Film Awards.

Crowe is married to actress Danielle Spencer and they have a 17-month-old son, Charles Spencer Crowe. He won an Oscar for his role in 2000's "Gladiator.

I too give you kudos for your self control.

I really love the example that Farquod gave above because here is a big reason to keep the fists quiet: avoid interaction with the criminal justice system. As much as knocking the shit out of the ******* would have made you feel better - if charges were filed, you would be dealing with a mess for months. Securing a lawyer,etc.

To Russell Crowe, it is no big deal because he is wealthy and There is No Such Thing as Bad Publicity. But for the rest of us - the rank and file - getting involved in the criminal justice system is not a good thing. Whether the charges are dismissed or not - its a bitch.

So - good job for keeping your head. Your son learned a lesson in class (or perhaps the taught the class on class) and you avoided what could have turned into an ugly and messy experience.
